| 설명 | 정상적으로 시야(visual field)에서 보이지 않는 부분을 말함. 이것이 생기는 이유는 시신경이 뇌에서 기시하여 안구내를 통해 들어오기 때문이다. 시각은 각막과 렌즈를 통과한 빛이 각막의 시각세포에 닿은 뒤, 시각세포에 의해 시각이 시각신경으로 전해져 형성된다. 이때 시각신경은 안구의 뒤쪽으로 들어와 망막의 한 부분을 차지하게 되어, 시각신경이 존재하는 부분에는 시각세포가 존재할 수 없게 된다. 따라서 이 부위는 시각을 형성할 수 없으며, 정상적으로 까만 보이지 않는 시야를 형성하게 된다. |

| Bjerrum's scotoma | A comet-shaped scotoma, occurring in glaucoma, attached at the temporal end to the blind spot or separated from it by a narrow gap; the defect widens as it extends above and nasally curves around the fixation spot, and then extends downward to end exactly at the nasal horizontal meridian. | caecocentral scotoma | A scotoma involving the optic disk area (blind spot) and the papillomacular fibres; there are three forms: 1) the caecocentral defect which extends from the blind spot toward or into the fixation area; 2) angioscotoma; 3) glaucomatous nerve-fibre bundle scotoma, due to involvement of nerve-fibre bundles at the edge of the optic disk.
