| 설명 | 전기운동적 현상의 하나로서 전장에서 양극이나 음극으로 향하는 입자의 운동을 이용하여 물질의 분석이나 정량에 이용하는 방법. 용액 속에서 전극에 전압을 가하면 그 입자가 음성 전기를 띠고 있으면 양극으로, 그리고 양성 전기를 띠고 있으면 음극으로 전기의 힘을 받아서 이동이 된다. 이동하는 모양도 입자의 형태나 크기에 따라 다르므로 단백질의 분석에 이용될 수가 있다. 이동속도는 입자자체의 전하 및 크기, 분자구조를 비롯하여 용매의 종류, 지지체 물질과의 상호작용, 온도 등에 의해 영향을 받게 된다. 전기이동은 이동도의 차이에 의해서 물질의 분리, 정제, 확인, 순도의 검정 등을 시행하는 것이다. |

| cell electrophoresis | <technique> A method for estimating the surface charge of a cell by looking at its rate of movement in an electrical field. Almost all eukaryotic cells have a net negative surface charge. Measurement is complicated by the streaming potential at the wall of the chamber itself and by the fact that the cell is surrounded by a layer of fluid (see double layer). The electrical potential measured (the zeta potential) is actually some distance away from the plasma membrane. One of the more useful modifications is to systematically vary the pH of the suspension fluid to determine the pK of the charged groups responsible (mostly carboxyl groups of sialic acid). | polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis | Analytical and separative technique in which molecules, particularly proteins, are separated by their different electrophoretic mobilities in a hydrated gel. The gel suppresses convective mixing of the fluid phase through which the electrophoresis takes place and contributes molecular sieving. Commonly carried out in the presence of the anionic detergent sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS). SDS denatures proteins so that noncovalently associating sub unit polypeptides migrate independently and by binding to the proteins confers a net negative charge roughly proportional to the chain weight. | haemoglobin electrophoresis | <investigation> A special diagnostic procedure which identifies abnormal haemoglobin proteins by the way they migrate in an electric field (electrophoresis). The electric field is used to separate haemoglobin proteins from each other and allow the identification of different components.
