| 영문 | VDRL(venereal disease research laboratory) | 한글 | 성병 연구실험실 |
|---|---|---|---|

||
||

| venereal disease | <microbiology> A disease contracted through sexual intercourse. Examples include syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and lymphogranuloma venereum. Synonym: sexually transmitted disease. (12 Jan 1998) |
|---|---|
| Venereal Disease Research Laboratory | <microbiology> A blood test used to diagnose syphilis. Read as nonreactive or negative if you do not have syphilis. The Venereal Disease Research Laboratory can also be positive is cases of leprosy, malaria, mononucleosis, lupus, hepatitis A and pregnancy. Positive Venereal Disease Research Laboratory tests are usually followed up by a more specific test (FTA antibodies). (12 Jan 1998) |
| sixth venereal disease | A venereal infection usually caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, and characterised by a transient genital ulcer and inguinal adenopathy in the male; in the female, perirectal lymph nodes are involved and rectal stricture is a common occurrence. Synonym: climatic bubo, Favre-Durand-Nicholas disease, lymphogranuloma inguinale, Nicolas-Favre disease, sixth venereal disease, tropical bubo. (05 Mar 2000) |
| canine venereal granuloma | A rapidly growing, soft, easily bleeding, infectious, connective tissue tumour occurring in the vagina of the female dog and on the penis and sheath of the male; ordinarily transmitted by coitus. Synonym: transmissible venereal tumour. (05 Mar 2000) |

In adults this infection is most commonly transmitted sexually. Genital warts are very common and are increasing in incidence. Safe sex practices, such as using condoms can help decrease the risk of infection. Treatment includes several topical agents to eradicate the lesions, cryosurgery, laser therapy, electrocauterisation or surgical removal. See alternate name condyloma acuminata. (12 Jan 1998) |
| venereal warts | Warts confined primarily to the moist skin of the genitals due to viruses belonging to the family of human papilloma viruses (hpvs) transmitted through sexual contact. most infected people have no symptoms but these viruses increase a woman's risk for cancer of the cervix. The virus can also be transmitted from mother to baby during childbirth. HPV infection is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the united states. It is also the leading cause of abnormal pap smears and pre-cancerous changes of the cervix in women. There is no cure for genital warts virus infection. Once contracted, the virus can stay with a person for life. (12 Dec 1998) |
