vasa aberrantia hepatis
| ganglion spirale cochleae | An elongated ganglion of bipolar sensory nerve cell bodies on the cochlear part of the vestibulocochlear nerve in the spiral canal of the modiolus; each ganglion cell gives rise to a peripheral process that passes between the layers of the bony spiral lamina to the organ of Corti, and a central axon that enters the hindbrain as a component of the inferior (cochlear) root of the eighth nerve. Synonym: ganglion spirale cochleae, auditory ganglion, cochlear ganglion, Corti's ganglion, spiral cochlear ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| vas spirale | A blood vessel, larger than its fellows, running in the tympanic layer of the basilar membrane just beneath the tunnel of Corti. (05 Mar 2000) |
| organum spirale | A prominent ridge of highly specialised epithelium in the floor of the cochlear duct overlying the basilar membrane of cochlea, containing one inner row and three outer rows of hair cells, or cells of Corti (the auditory receptor cells innervated by the cochlear nerve) supported by various columnar cells: the pillars of Corti, cells of Hensen, and cells of Claudius; the spiral organ is partly overhung by an awning-like shelf, the tectorial membrane, the free marginal zone of which is covered by a gelatinous substance in which the stereocilia of the outer hair cells are embedded. Synonym: organum spirale, acoustic papilla, Corti's organ. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum spirale cochleae | An alternate term for spiral ligament of cochlea, spiral ligament of cochlea. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vasa | <molecular biology> Drosophila gene involved in oogenesis and embryonic positional specification, a DEAD box helicase. (18 Nov 1997) |
| vasa aberrantes | The superior or inferior diverticula of the epididymis. Synonym: ductuli aberrantes, aberrant ducts, ductus aberrantes, vasa aberrantes. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vasa auris internae | Blood vessels of the internal ear, consisting of the labyrinthine artery and its branches and the labyrinthine veins and their tributaries. Synonym: vasa auris internae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vasa brevia | Four or five small arteries given off from the splenic, passing via the gastrosplenic ligament to the fundus of the stomach along the greater curvature, and anastomosing with the other arteries in that region. Synonym: arteriae gastricae breves, vasa brevia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vasa lymphatica | The vessels that convey the lymph; they anastomose freely with each other. Synonym: vasa lymphatica, absorbent vessels, lymphatic vessels, lymphatics. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vasa nervorum | Blood vessels supplying the nerves. (12 Dec 1998) |
| vasa previa | The umbilical cord vessels come before the foetal head during delivery. (12 Dec 1998) |
| vasa recta | Straight vessels into which the efferent arteriole of the juxtamedullary glomeruli breaks up; they form a leash of vessels which, arising at the bases of the pyramids, run through the renal medulla toward the apex of each pyramid, then reverse direction in a hairpin turn, and run straight back again toward the base of the pyramid as venae rectae. Synonym: straight seminiferous tubule. Synonym: arteriolae rectae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vasa sanguinea retinae | The blood vasculature of the retina, including the branches and tributaries of the central retinal artery and vein, respectively, and the vascular circle of the optic nerve. Synonym: vasa sanguinea retinae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vasa vasorum | Nutrient blood vessels which supply the walls of large arteries or veins. (12 Dec 1998) |
| vasa vorticosa | Several veins (usually four) from the vascular tunic formed of veins accompanying the posterior ciliary arteries and the ciliary body; then drain into the superior or inferior ophthalmic vein. Synonym: venae vorticosae, venae choroideae oculi, choroid veins of eye, Stensen's veins, vasa vorticosa, vorticose veins. (05 Mar 2000) |
