| 설명 | 수두를 일으키는 바이러스와 같은 바이러스가 원인인 병. 처음 감염으로 수두를 일으킨 Herpes zoster 바이러스는 수두가 다 낫고 나면 사라지는 것이 아니고 사람의 척수에서 나오는 신경인 척수신경의 감각을 담당하는 신경절에서 잠복을 하고 있다. 그러다가 사람의 면역기능이 저하될 때 체내에 잠재해 있던 바이러스가 재활성화(reactivation)되어 발병하는 것으로 생각되고 있다. 잠복하고 있던 척수신경의 신경절에서 나와서 그 척수신경을 따라 피부병터가 생기는데 그 이전에 동통과 감각이상 등의 증상이 선행된다. 피부의 병터는 우선 작은 크기의 피부의 융기물이 주로 한쪽에 선상으로 배열을 한 형태로 생기고 이를 뒤이어서 이것이 물집으로 바뀐다. 가장 흔히 오는 부위는 흉부이며, 뇌신경을 침범하기도 한다. 치료는 동통을 완화하는 치료만을 시행한다. 바이러스에 작용하여 바이러스를 죽이는 약물은 병터의 치유를 빨리 하고 통증을 완화시키고, 피부이외의 다른 기관으로 이 바이러스가 진행하는 것을 막지만 정상인에게 있어서는 시간이 지나면 완치가 되므로 잘 사용치 않는다. |

| 설명 | 이 병은 헤르페스바이러스(herpes virus)의 감염으로 생기는 병이다. 이 바이러스에 감염된 후에 13~17일 정도의 잠복기를 가지고 감기 비슷한 증상을 가진 후에 가슴, 배에 물집이 생기기 시작하여 곧 이것이 얼굴, 어깨, 사지로 퍼져나가 온몸에 수포가 생긴다. 이 수포는 매우 가렵고 곧 수포속의 맑은 액체가 혼탁하게 되어 고름같은 액체로 변하게 되고 마지막 단계에서는 딱지가 생기며 치유된다. 어느 연령에서나 생길 수가 있으나 주로 10세 미만의 소아에서 많이 생기고 발생 연령이 늦을수록 심한 증세를 나타낸다. 전염이 아주 잘되며 전염성이 있는 시기는 발진이 생긴 후 1~6일 정도까지이다. 합병증으로는 물집부위에 이차적으로 세균의 감염이 있어서 더욱 증세를 심하게 할 수가 있고, 또 드문 경우이지만 헤르페스바이러스가 뇌염, 폐렴 등을 일으킬 수가 있다. 또한 임산부가 수두에 걸렸을 경우에는 태아의 감염을 일으켜서 선천기형을 초래할 수도 있다. 이 병은 건강한 사람일 경우에는 뚜렷한 치료가 없이도 저절로 낫는 병이므로 단지 물집부위의 가려움을 예방하는 로션을 바르는 것으로 충분하지만, 합병증이 심하거나 면역기능이 저하된 사람에게는 헤르페스바이러스의 치료제인 Acyclovir를 투여한다. |

| 설명 | 박테리아보다 덜 진화된, 생물과 무생물의 중간단계에 해당하는 것. 혼자서는 생존능력이 없으므로 반드시 다른 세포내에 속해 있어야 한다. 인체에 발생하는 많은 병중, 이 바이러스로 인해 발생하는 경우가 많으며, 이 때 대부분 특이한 치료법은 없는 실정이다. 일부 헤르페스바이러스 계통에는 치료약이 개발되어 있지만, 이것도 일부 질병에서만 치료가 가능하다. 또한, Ebstein-Barr virus, Human papilloma virus 등은 암의 발생과 연관되어 있으며, 동물에서 발생하는 대부분의 암종은 바이러스와 연관되어 있는 경우가 많다. 요즘, 일부 지역에서 큰 유행을 하고 있는 후천성면역결핍증후군(AIDS)도 HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus)와 관련이 있다. |

| 설명 | 인플루엔자의 병원체. 상기도 점막에 침입하여 호흡기 질환을 일으킨다. 보체 결합 항원의 차이에 따라 A-B-C 세형태로 나뉘며, 유행할 때마다 혈구 응집 항원이 변이하여 광범위한 유행을 나타낸다. 껍질이 있는 80~150nm의 공모양, 나선 대칭 RNA 바이러스이다. 두 종류의 스파이크, 뉴라미니다아제(neuraminidase, NA), 당단백질과 헤마글루티닌(hemagglution, HA) 당단백질을 만든다. A형의 NA에는 N1-N2의 두 종류, HA에는 HAO-HA1-HA2-HA3의 네 종류가 있다. A형은 말-돼지-새에 감염하며 새로운 아형은 동물 바이러스와의 조환형이며, 그 밖에 동일 아형내 점변이가 있다. B, C형은 사람 이외에는 감염되지 않는다. 닭의 적혈구를 응집하는 성질이 있다. 바이러스 진단에는 환자의 인두 세척액에서 분리한다든가, 또는 환자의 혈청항체에 의한 특이적 적혈구 응집저지검사, 뉴라미니다아제 활성저지검사 또는 중화검사 등으로 검출한다. |
