| Baudelocque's uterine circle | A constriction located at the junction of the thinned lower uterine segment with the thick retracted upper uterine segment, resulting from obstructed labour; this is one of the classic signs of threatened rupture of the uterus. Synonym: Bandl's ring, Baudelocque's uterine circle, Scanzoni's second os. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cancer, uterine | Cancer of the womb (uterus). Cancer of the uterus occurs most often in women between the ages of 55 and 70 years. Abnormal bleeding after menopause is the most common symptom of cancer of the uterus. Cancer of the uterus is diagnosed based on the results of the pelvic examination, pap smear, biopsy of the uterus, and D and C procedure. (12 Dec 1998) |
| vesicular appendices of uterine tube | A small fluid-filled cyst attached by a slender stalk to the fimbriated end of the uterine tube; a vestigial remnant of the embryonic mesonephric duct. | posterior lip of uterine os | The portion of the uterine cervix that bounds the ostium posteriorly. It is slightly longer than labium anterius, intervening between the cervical canal and the posterior fornix of the vagina. Synonym: labium posterius ostii uteri. (05 Mar 2000) |
| primary uterine inertia | True uterine inertia, uterine inertia that occurs when the uterus fails to contract with sufficient force to effect continuous dilation or effacement of the cervix or descent or rotation of the foetal head, and when the uterus is easily indentable at the acme of contraction, secondary uterine inertia, uterine inertia that occurs when the uterine contractions are vigorous but, as a result of the exhaustion or dehydration of the patient, decrease in vigor, and the progress of labour ceases. (05 Mar 2000) |
