| gyrus parahippocampalis | A long convolution on the medial surface of the temporal lobe, forming the lower part of the fornicate gyrus, extending from behind the splenium corporis callosi forward along the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus from which it is demarcated by the hippocampal fissure. The anterior extreme of the gyrus curves back upon itself, forming the uncus, the major location of the olfactory cortex. See: entorhinal area. Synonym: gyrus parahippocampalis, hippocampal convolution, hippocampal gyrus. (05 Mar 2000) |

| uncus band of Giacomini | A slender whitish band, the attenuated anterior continuation of the dentate gyrus (fascia dentata), crossing transversally the surface of the recurved part of the uncus gyri parahippocampalis. Synonym: band of Giacomini, cauda fasciae dentatae, frenulum of Giacomini, tail of dentate gyrus. (05 Mar 2000) |

| central gyri | The precentral and postcentral gyri. Gyri cerebri Gyri of cerebrum, the gyri or convolutions of the cerebral cortex. Cingulate gyrus, a long, curved convolution of the medial surface of the cortical hemisphere, arched over the corpus callosum from which it is separated by the deep sulcus of corpus callosum; together with the parahippocampal gyrus, with which it is continuous behind the corpus callosum, it forms the fornicate gyrus. Synonym: gyrus cinguli, callosal convolution, callosal gyrus, cingulate convolution, falciform lobe, lobus falciformis. (05 Mar 2000) |
