| umbilical part of left branch of portal vein | <anatomy, vein> The highly branched part of the left branch of the portal vein; the round and venous ligaments attach to this part. Synonym: pars umbilicalis rami sinistri venae portae hepatis. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| left umbilical vein | <anatomy, vein> The vein that returns the blood from the placenta to the foetus; traversing the umbilical cord, it enters the foetal body at the umbilicus and passes thence into the liver, where it is joined by the portal vein; its blood then flows by way of the ductus venosus and the inferior vena cava to the right atrium. Synonym: vena umbilicalis sinistra. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sulcus of umbilical vein | <anatomy, vein> The sulcus on the foetal liver occupied by the umbilical vein. Synonym: sulcus venae umbilicalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| umbilical vein | See: left umbilical vein. (05 Mar 2000) |
| apicoposterior branch of left superior pulmonary vein | <anatomy, vein> Drains apicoposterior bronchopulmonary segment of superior lobe of left lung. Synonym: ramus apicoposterior venae pulmonalis sinistrae superioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| posterior vein of left ventricle | Arises on the diaphragmatic surface of the heart near the apex, runs to the left and parallel to the posterior interventricular sulcus, and empties in the coronary sinus. Synonym: vena posterior ventriculi sinistri. (05 Mar 2000) |
| superior part of lingular branch of left pulmonary vein | <anatomy, vein> The vein that drains the superior lingular bronchopulmonary segment of the left lung. Synonym: pars superior rami lingularis venae pulmonis sinistri. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior part of lingular branch of left pulmonary vein | <anatomy, vein> The vein draining the inferior lingular bronchopulmonary segment of the left lung. Synonym: pars inferior rami lingularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| oblique vein of left atrium | A small vein on the posterior wall of the left atrium which merges with the great cardiac vein to form the coronary sinus; it is developed from the left common cardinal vein, and occasionally persists as a left superior vena cava. Synonym: vena obliqua atrii sinistri, Marshall's oblique vein. (05 Mar 2000) |
| transverse part of left branch of portal vein | <anatomy, vein> The long unbranched portion of the left branch of the portal vein. Synonym: pars transversa rami sinistri venae portae hepatis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| left colic vein | <anatomy, vein> A tributary of the inferior mesenteric vein that accompanies the left colic artery and drains the left flexure and descending colon. Synonym: vena colica sinistra. (05 Mar 2000) |
| left coronary vein | <anatomy, vein> Begins at the apex of the heart (where it anastomoses with the middle cardiac vein), runs first with the anterior interventricular artery as it ascends the anterior interventricular groove, then turns to the left as it approaches or reaches the coronary groove to run with the circumflex branch of the left coronary artery; it merges with the oblique vein of the left atrium to form the coronary sinus. Synonym: vena cordis magna, left coronary vein, vena cardiaca magna. (05 Mar 2000) |
| left gastric vein | <anatomy, vein> Arises from a union of veins from both surfaces of the cardia of the stomach and an oesophageal tributary from the cardiac portion of the oesophagus; it runs in the lesser omentum and empties into the portal vein. | left gastroepiploic vein | <anatomy, vein> The vein that accompanies the left gastroepiploic artery along the greater curvature of the stomach; it empties into the splenic vein. Synonym: vena gastro-omentalis sinistra, left gastroomental vein. (05 Mar 2000) |
| left gastroomental vein | <anatomy, vein> The vein that accompanies the left gastroepiploic artery along the greater curvature of the stomach; it empties into the splenic vein. Synonym: vena gastro-omentalis sinistra, left gastroomental vein. (05 Mar 2000) |
