| 설명 | 바이러스에 감염된 동물의 세포에서 생산되는 항바이러스성 단백질. 바이러스에 감염된 조직이 생산하는 항바이러스 작용이나 항종양작용 등 생리활성이 있는 당단백질을 말한다. 1957년 영국 국립의학연구소의 A.아이작스와 J.린든먼에 의해 알려졌다. 이들은 열처리한 바이러스를 달걀 내막의 세포에 처리하고 하루 동안 배양한 다음, 배양액을 추출하여 새로운 달걀 내막과 섞은 후, 살아 있는 바이러스를 집어넣은 결과, 바이러스의 분열이 억제되었고, 그 배양액을 넣지 않은 경우에는 바이러스가 분열되어 번식하였다. 이 실험의 의미는 바이러스가 동물세포에 침입하면 방어의 기능으로 그 동물세포는 인터페론을 생산하여 바이러스의 분열을 막는다는 것이다. 제일 많이 연구된 분야는 인간의 인터페론이다. 인터페론은 바이러스감염 및 내독소 투여, 나아가서는 항원자극 등에 반응하여 갖가지 세포로부터 방출된다. IFN이라고 약기. 현재, 3종(IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-γ)이 알려져 있으며 각각 의약품으로 사용되고 있다. |

| interferon | <cytokine> A family of glycoproteins derived from human cells which normally has a role in fighting viral infections by preventing virus multiplication in cells. They are secreted by vertebrate cells in response to a wide variety of inducers and confer resistance against many different viruses, inhibit proliferation of normal and malignant cells, impede multiplication of intracellular parasites, enhance macrophage and granulocyte phagocytosis, augment natural killer cell activity, and show several other immunomodulatory functions. Interferon-alpha is made by leucocytes and interferon-gamma by fibroblasts after viral infection. Interferon-alpha and -beta are also called type I interferons, interferon-gamma as Type II interferons, more usually classed as cytokines. | interferon-alpha | <cytokine> One of the type I interferons produced by peripheral blood leukocytes or lymphoblastoid cells when exposed to live or inactivated virus, double-stranded RNA, or bacterial products. It is the major interferon produced by virus-induced leukocyte cultures and, in addition to its pronounced antiviral activity, causes activation of NK cells. It is used experimentally in the treatment of hairy-cell leukaemia. A number of different subtypes exist that are elaborated by leukocytes in response to viral infection or stimulation with double-stranded RNA; IFN-alpha-2A and -2B are protein products made by recombinant DNA techniques and are used as antineoplastic agents. | interferon-b2 | <cytokine> A cytokine that stimulates the growth and differentiation of human B-cells and is also a growth factor for hybridomas and plasmacytomas. It is produced by many different cells including T-cells, monocytes, and fibroblasts. A single chain 25 kD cytokine originally described as a pre B-cell growth factor, now known to have effects on a number of other cells including T-cells which are also stimulated to proliferate.
