| trimethylamine | <chemistry> A colourless volatile alkaline liquid, N.(CH3)3, obtained from herring brine, beet roots, etc, with a characteristic herringlike odour. It is regarded as a substituted ammonia containing three methyl groups. Origin: Trimethyl- + amine. Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |

| trimethylamine-coenzyme M methyltransferase | <enzyme> A corrinoid protein from methanosarcina barkeri Registry number: EC 2.1.1.- Synonym: trimethylamine hs-com methyltransferase, tmcm methyltransferase (26 Jun 1999) |
| trimethylaminuria | An inborn error of metabolism associated with an offensive body odour, the smell of rotting fish, due to the excessive excretion of tma in urine, sweat, and breath. Persons with tma may experience tachycardia (fast heart rate) and severe hypertension (high blood pressure) after eating cheese (which contains tyramine) and after using nasal sprays containing epinephrine. Tma is caused by a mutation (change) in the gene for an enzyme, flavin-containing monooxygenase-3 (fmo3) encoded by a gene on chromosome 1. The fmo3 enzyme metabolises tyramine (which is in cheese). The syndrome is associated with various psychosocial reactions, including social isolation, clinical depression and attempted suicide. (12 Dec 1998) |

| trimethylene | <chemistry> A gaseous hydrocarbon, C3H6, isomeric with propylene and obtained from it indirectly. It is the base of a series of compounds analogous to the aromatic hydrocarbons. Usu. Called cyclopropane, because the three carbons form a ring: CH2 / \ H2C-CH2 Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |
| trimethylethylene | <chemistry> One of a group of metameric hydrocarbons, C5H10, of the ethylene series. The colourless, volatile, mobile liquid commonly called amylene is a mixture of different members of the group. Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |

| trimethylaminuria |
Trimethylaminuria is a disorder in which the body is unable to break down trimethylamine, a compound derived from the diet that has a strong odor of rotting fish. As trimethylamine builds up in the body, it causes affected people to give off a fish-like odor in their sweat, urine, and breath. The intensity of this odor may vary over time. In many cases, the strong body odor interferes with an affected person's relationships, social life, and career. ...
