| 설명 | 대변을 대변통에 적당량 담아 보내고, 직장도말(rectal swab: 직접 항문에서 대변을 묻혀서 받아내는 것)검체는 두개의 면봉을 운반배지에 넣어 보낸다. 먼저 그람염색하여 백혈구가 보이는 지를 관찰하고 백혈구가 많이 보이면 대부분 세균성 이질일 가능성이 높다. 배양방법은 균에 따라 다르며 살모넬라(Salmonella)는 S-S 우무에 배양하며 옐시니아(Yersinia)는 CIN 우무에 배양하며, 비브리오(Vibrio)는 TCBS 우무에 배양하며, 클로스트리듐(Clostridium)은 TCCF 우무에 배양하며, 최근 발견된 장용혈성 대장균(EHEC)은 sorbital MAC 우무에서 배양한다. |

| 설명 | Epstein-Barr 바이러스에 의해서 일어나는 급성 감염병. 발열, 쇠약, 인후통, 간기능장애, 림프절비대, 간지라비대, 말초혈액중의 비정형림프구(단구와 유사한) 및 양세포에 대한 고역가의 응집소를 특징으로 한다. 질병의 경과중 및 회복기간을 통해서 현저한 무력증이 지속된다. 같은 증후군이 원발성 거대세포바이러스감염에도 동반된다. 키스병이라고도 하며, 침에 의한 EB바이러스 감염에 의해 발병한다. |

| 설명 | 방사선조사의 정도. 방사선생물학이나 인체의 방사선방호에서는 전리방사선의 양, 즉 선량이 문제가 된다. 방사선량에서도 국제단위계(SI)가 채용되어 국제방사선방호위원회(ICRP)의 권고에 따라서 다음의 여러 단위가 널리 사용된다. ① 흡수선량(absorbed dose). 물질의 단위질량이 방사선에 의해 받아들이는 에너지. 이 단위는 방사선 및 물질의 종류가 어떠한 것이더라도 사용할 수 있다. 국제단위는 J/kg이며 이것에 고유한 명칭으로 그레이(gray, 기호 Gy)가 부여된다. 1Gy=100라드(rad). ② 조사선량(exposure) 또는 공중선량. X선 또는 γ선에 한해서 사용된다. 국제단위는 C/kg. ③ 선량당량(dose equivalent). 방사선방호를 위해 사용되는 양. 기호는 H. H는 방사선의 종류와 에너지에 의해 생체에 주는 효과를 보정하는 선질계수(Q)와 그 밖의 인자(예를 들면 선량률, 방사성동위원소에 의한 내부피폭시에는 그 핵종의 체내분포 등)에 근거한 보정계수(N)를 흡수선량(D)에 곱한 것, 즉 H=D-Q-N. 또한 D의 단위를 Gy 또는 rad로 표시하였을 때 H의 단위를 각각 시베르트(sievert, 기호 Sv) 및 렘(rem)이라고 한다. 따라서 1 Sv=102rem. 일반적으로 단위시간당의 선량을 선량률(dose rate)이라고 한다. |

| mixed lymphocyte culture test | Measure of histocompatibility at the hl-a locus. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from two individuals are mixed together in tissue culture for several days. Lymphocytes from incompatible individuals will stimulate each other to proliferate significantly (measured by tritiated thymidine uptake) whereas those from compatible individuals will not. In the one-way mlc test, the lymphocytes from one of the individuals are inactivated (usually by treatment with mitomycin c or radiation) thereby allowing only the untreated remaining population of cells to proliferate in response to foreign histocompatibility antigens.
