| fundus diabeticus | <ophthalmology, pathology> A major cause of blindness in diabetics. Retinal disease results from adverse effects on the blood vessels which supply the retina. Swollen retinal vessels which leak fluid into the retina are commonly seen on physical examination of the eyes.
