| thalamic fasciculus | Nerve fibres forming a composite bundle containing cerebellothalamic (crossed) and pallidothalamic (uncrossed) fibres that is insinuated between the thalamus and zona incerta. See: fields of Forel. Synonym: fasciculus thalamicus. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|
| anterior thalamic radiations | Radiations formed by fibres interconnecting, via the anterior limb of the internal capsule, the anterior and medial thalamic nuclei and the cerebral cortex of the frontal lobe (excluding the precentral gyrus bordering on the central sulcus). (05 Mar 2000) |

| anterodorsal thalamic nucleus | anterodorsal thalamic nucleus |
| anteromedial thalamic nucleus | anteromedial thalamic nucleus |
| anteroventral thalamic nucleus | anteroventral thalamic nucleus |
| ventral thalamic peduncle | The massive system of fibre bundles emerging through the ventral, lateral, and anterior borders of the thalamus to join the internal capsule and parts of the corona radiata; it contains the fibres reciprocally connecting the ventral thalamic nuclei with the precentral and postcentral gyri of the cerebral cortex. Synonym: pedunculus thalami ventralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ventral tier thalamic nuclei | Collective term for nuclei in the ventral part of the lateral nuclear group, e.g., ventral anterior, lateral, posterolateral, and posteromedial nuclei and the medial and lateral geniculate bodies. The basoventral nuclear complex constitutes the caudal part of the ventral tier thalamic nuclei. (05 Mar 2000) |
| central thalamic radiations | Radiations formed by fibres interconnecting, through the posterior limb of the internal capsule, the ventral lateral, ventral posterolateral and posteromedial, lateral dorsal, and lateral posterior nuclei and the precentral gyrus and parietal lobe of the cerebral cortex. (05 Mar 2000) |
| posterior thalamic radiations | Radiations formed by fibres interconnecting through the retrolenticular part of the posterior limb of the internal capsule, the pulvinar complex and lateral geniculate nucleus and the posterior parietal and occipital lobes of the cerebral cortex. (05 Mar 2000) |
| surface thalamic veins | One or more veins running a subependymal course in a coronal plane over the thalamus, terminating in the internal cerebral vein. Synonym: lateral direct veins, surface thalamic veins. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior thalamic peduncle | A large fibre bundle emerging from the anterior part of the thalamus in the ventral direction, in part joining the medial fibres of the internal capsule, in other part curving laterally around the medial margin of the capsule into the innominate substance. Many of its fibres establish a reciprocal connection of the mediodorsal nucleus of the thalamus with the orbital gyri of the frontal lobe, but numerous other fibres constitute a conduction system from the amygdala and olfactory cortex to the mediodorsal nucleus. See: ansa peduncularis. Synonym: pedunculus thalami inferior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| thalamic | <anatomy> Of or pertaining to a thalamus or to thalami. Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |
| thalamic gustatory nucleus | The small ventral region of the ventral posteromedial nucleus of thalamus in which the fibres of the gustatory lemniscus and secondary trigeminal tracts terminate; it projects to the lower part of the postcentral gyrus of the cerebral cortex. Synonym: arcuate nucleus, nucleus arcuatus thalami, nucleus arcuatus, semilunar nucleus of Flechsig, thalamic gustatory nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| thalamic nuclei | Several groups of nuclei in the thalamus that serve as the major relay centres for sensory impulses in the brain. (12 Dec 1998) |
| thalamic syndrome | <syndrome> A syndrome produced by infarction of the postero-inferior thalamus causing transient hemiparesis, severe loss of superficial and deep sensation with preservation of crude pain in the hypalgic limbs which frequently have vasomotor or trophic disturbances. Synonym: Dejerine-Roussy syndrome. (05 Mar 2000) |
| thalamic tenia | The sharp edge or angle between the superior and medial surface of the thalamus on either side; to it is attached the epithelial lamina forming the roof of the third ventricle. Synonym: tenia ventriculi tertii, thalamic tenia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| thalamic f. |
a bundle of nerve fibers ascending through field H of Forel to pass dorsal to and partly through the zona incerta, crossing the lower portion of the posterior limb of the internal capsule to reach some of the ventral nuclei of the thalamus; it contains continuations of the ansa lenticularis and the fasciculus lenticularis and dentatothalamic, rubrothalamic, and thalamostriate fibers. See also fields of Forel, under field.
