| choroid tela of third ventricle | A double fold of pia mater, enclosing subarachnoid trabeculae, between the fornix above and the epithelial roof of the third ventricle and the thalami below; at each lateral margin is a vascular fringe projecting into the choroidal fissure of the lateral ventricle; on its undersurface are several small vascular projections filling the folds of the ependymal roof of the third ventricle. Synonym: tela choroidea ventriculi tertii, tela choroidea superior, triangular lamella, velum interpositum, velum triangulare. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| tela choroidea | That portion of the pia mater that covers the ependymal roof or, in the case of the lateral ventricle, medial wall of a cerebral ventricle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| tela choroidea inferior | The sheet of pia mater covering the lower part of the ependymal roof of the fourth ventricle. Synonym: tela choroidea ventriculi quarti, tela choroidea inferior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| tela choroidea superior | A double fold of pia mater, enclosing subarachnoid trabeculae, between the fornix above and the epithelial roof of the third ventricle and the thalami below; at each lateral margin is a vascular fringe projecting into the choroidal fissure of the lateral ventricle; on its undersurface are several small vascular projections filling the folds of the ependymal roof of the third ventricle. | choroid plexus of third ventricle | The double row of vascular projections from the undersurface of the tela choroidea where it roofs over the third ventricle. Synonym: plexus choroideus ventriculi tertii. (05 Mar 2000) |
| third ventricle | A narrow, vertically oriented, irregularly quadrilateral cavity in the midplane, extending from the lamina terminalis to the rostral opening of the mesencephalic aqueduct. This ventricle communicates at its rostrodorsal corner with each of the two lateral ventricles through the left and right interventricular foramen of Monro. Its narrow roof is formed by the tela choroidea which is attached on either side to the tenia thalami; its lateral wall by the medial surface of the thalamus and, below the hypothalamic sulcus, by the hypothalamus which also forms its floor. In lateral profile, the third ventricle exhibits a number of recesses: in its floor, from before backward, 1) the preoptic recess in the acute angle between the base of the lamina terminalis and the dorsum of the optic chiasm, 2) the infundibular recess extending ventrally into the infundibulum but (in humans) not into the hypophysial stalk, and 3) the mamillary or inframamillary recess caused by the protrusion of the mamillary bodies into the ventricle. From its dorsocaudal corner, the pineal recess extends caudally into the pineal stalk. Synonym: ventriculus tertius, diacele, ventricle of diencephalon. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria choroidea anterior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, internal carotid or (rarely) middle cerebral artery; distribution, optic tract, crus cerebri, uncus, hippocampus, globus pallidus, posterior part of internal capsule, geniculate bodies of the thalamus, and choroid plexus in the inferior horn of the lateral ventricle. Synonym: arteria choroidea anterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria choroidea posterior | <anatomy, artery> One of several choroid branches of the P2 segment of the posterior cerebral artery that supply the choroid plexus of the body of the lateral ventricle and of the third ventricle. Synonym: arteria choroidea posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena choroidea inferior | <anatomy, vein> A small vein draining the lower part of the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricle into the basal vein. Synonym: vena choroidea inferior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena choroidea superior | <anatomy, vein> A tortuous vein that follows the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricle and unites with the superior thalamostriate vein and the anterior vein of the transparent septum to form the internal cerebral vein. Synonym: vena choroidea superior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| choroidea | Synonym: choroid. Origin: see choroid (05 Mar 2000) |
| plica choroidea | In the embryo, an infolding of the chorion from which the choroid plexus develops. (05 Mar 2000) |
