| tympanic incisure | The notch in the superior part of the tympanic ring bridged by the flaccid part of the tympanic membrane. Synonym: incisura tympanica, incisura rivini, Rivinus' incisure, Rivinus' notch, tympanic incisure. (05 Mar 2000) |
| acromial branch of suprascapular artery | <anatomy, artery> Branch of suprascapular artery which pierces the origin of the trapezius muscle to run to the acromion; anastomoses, acromial branch of thoracoacromial artery. Synonym: ramus acromialis arteriae suprascapularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| suprascapular | Above the scapula, denoting especially an artery, vein and nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| suprascapular artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, thyrocervical trunk; distribution, clavicle, scapula, muscles of shoulder, and shoulder joint; anastomoses, transverse cervical circumflex scapular. Synonym: arteria suprascapularis, transverse scapular artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| suprascapular ligament | <anatomy> The strong fibrous band that bridges the scapular notch creating a foramen that gives passage to the suprascapular nerve, while the suprascapular vessels pass over the ligament superiorly. Synonym: ligamentum transversum scapulae superius, suprascapular ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |
| suprascapular nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Arises from the upper trunk of the brachial plexus (fifth and sixth cervical spinal nerves), passes downward parallel to the cords of the brachial plexus, then through the scapular notch, supplying the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles, and also sending branches to the shoulder joint. It is vulnerable to injury in fractures of the middle 1/3 of the clavicle; a lesion of the suprascapular nerve results in a loss of lateral rotation at the shoulder so that when relaxed the limb rotates medially (waiter's tip position); ability to initiate abduction is also affected. Synonym: nervus suprascapularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| suprascapular notch | A notch on the superior border of the scapula through which the suprascapular nerve passes. Synonym: incisura scapulae, suprascapular notch. (05 Mar 2000) |
| suprascapular vein | <anatomy, vein> Vein that accompanies the suprascapular artery and empties into the external jugular vein. Synonym: vena suprascapularis, transverse vein of scapula, vena transversa scapulae. (05 Mar 2000) |
