| 설명 | 장기, 조직이 부었을 때 그 부위를 만져볼 때 나타나는 소견이며 보통은 부드러운 조직이 단단해지는 병적 상태를 말한다. 경화를 일으키는 병터는 다양하며 부종, 출혈, 염증 또는 종양도 포함되고, 병의 감별에는 방사선 소견이나 병리조직검사 등 각종 검사가 필요하다. |

| 설명 | 1. 병원체가 체내에 침입(감염)한 후 그로 인한 감염증이 발병할 때까지의 기간. 병원체의 종류에 따라 그 내용이 다르다. 예컨대 말라리아는 침입한 병원체가 인체 내에서 일정한 단계까지 발육한 후 발병하고, 장티푸스는 침입한 병원균이 일정한 수까지 번식을 해야 발병하며, 파상풍은 침입한 병원균이 생성한 독소가 뇌신경에 달한 후에 발병한다. 같은 병이라도 침입한 병원체의 양이나 독력, 감염된 사람의 감수성 등에 따라서도 달라진다. 보통 잠복기에는 병적 징후가 나타나지 않지만 민감한 사람의 경우는 두통-식욕부진-현기증-불쾌감과 같은 전구증상을 나타내는 수도 있다. 2. 보온기간, 배양기간, 발육에 필요한 기간. |
