| 설명 | 척추 발생상의 결함으로 척추의 융합이 안 된 신경관 형성의 선천기형. 따라서 척추의 뒤쪽은 텅 빈 공간으로 남게 되고, 그 안에 존재하는 척수는 보호물이 없이 외부에 노출된 상태가 된다. 척추뼈의 결함만 있는 숨은 척추갈림증(spina bifida occulta) (척추 뒤의 피부는 그대로 덮고 있어 척수가 외부로 노출되지는 않음)와 척추뼈의 결함뿐 아니라 척추뼈 내용물의 전위와 척추를 덮고 있는 피부 결함 등을 동반한 드러난 척추갈림증(spina bifida aperta)으로 분류한다. |

| spina ischiadica | A pointed process from the posterior border of the ischium on a level with the lower border of the acetabulum; gives attachment to the sacrospinous ligament; the pudendal nerve passes dorsal to the ischial spine, which is palpable per vagina or rectum, and thus is used as a target for the needle-tip in administering a pudendal nerve block.
