| 설명 | 몸이 가늘고 길며 꿈틀거려 기어다니는 무척추동물을 이르는 말. 그리스어의 ‘helmins(벌레라는 뜻)’에서 유래하는 용어로, 원래는 내장충을 뜻하였다. 동물분류학상 명칭이 아니라 편형동물-선형동물-환형동물 등에 속하는 동물군을 말하며, 기생생활을 하는 종 외에 자유생활을 하는 종도 포함한다. 연충류는 건조한 상태레서 몸을 지켜줄 만큼의 습기만 있는 곳이면 거의 모든 생태적 지위를 차지할 수 있도록 적응하고 있다. 벌레가 살 수 없는 곳은 매우 건조한 장소뿐이다. 동식물의 기생충이기도 하기 때문에 의학적으로 중요하다. 이 가운데 편형동물은 등과 배가 편평하고 몸에 둥근 마디가 없으며, 소화관이 발달하지 못하고 항문이 없는 흡충-조충 등과 같은 벌레로 암수한몸이며, 기생을 하거나 경우에 따라 독립생활을 한다. 선형동물은 몸의 모양이 길고 가는 선의 형태로 마디가 없으며, 혈관이 호흡기가 없는 회충이나 요충-십이지장충-편충 등의 기생충으로 암수딴몸으로 되어 있다. |
