The tumour is solitary, firm, somewhat raised, more or less translucent, and covered with normal or slightly verrucose epidermis. It may be yellow or orange. | sebaceous | <physiology> Pertaining to, or secreting, fat; composed of fat; having the appearance of fat; as, the sebaceous secretions of some plants, or the sebaceous humor of animals. <obstetrics> Sebaceous cyst, small subcutaneous glands, usually connected with hair follicles. They secrete an oily semifluid matter, composed in great part of fat, which softens and lubricates the hair and skin. Origin: NL. Sebaceus, from L. Sebum tallow, grease. Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |
| sebaceous adenoma | <tumour> A benign neoplasm of sebaceous tissue, with a predominance of mature secretory sebaceous cells. Compare: adenoma sebaceum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sebaceous cyst | A closed sac (sebaceous gland) within the tissue containing oily or fatty semi-solid material. These cysts are found most commonly on the genitalia, vulva or labia. Features include a nontender, small lump in the skin. Sebaceous cysts which turn red or tender may require treatment with oral antibiotics. Warm wet compresses may help the cyst expel some of its contents. Surgical excision of the cyst may be necessary to prevent recurrence. (27 Sep 1997) |
| sebaceous epithelioma | <tumour> A benign tumour of the sebaceous gland epithelium in which small basaloid or germinative cells predominate. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sebaceous follicles | Numerous holocrine glands in the dermis that usually open into the hair follicles and secrete an oily semifluid sebum. Synonym: glandulae sebaceae, oil glands, sebaceous follicles. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sebaceous gland | A normal gland of the skin which empties an oily secretion into the hair follicle near the surface of the skin. (12 Dec 1998) |
| sebaceous glands | Numerous holocrine glands in the dermis that usually open into the hair follicles and secrete an oily semifluid sebum. Synonym: glandulae sebaceae, oil glands, sebaceous follicles. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sebaceous horn | A solid outgrowth from a sebaceous cyst. (05 Mar 2000) |
| senile sebaceous hyperplasia | Hyperplasia of mature sebaceous glands, forming a nodule on the skin of the face or forehead in elderly persons. (05 Mar 2000) |
| accessory tubercle | A small apophysis at the posterior part of the base of the transverse process of each of the lumbar vertebrae. Synonym: processus accessorius, accessory tubercle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| acoustic tubercle | The slight prominence of the floor of the lateral recess of the fourth ventricle, corresponding to the underlying cochlear and vestibular nuclei. Synonym: acoustic tubercle, trigonum acustici. (05 Mar 2000) |
| adductor tubercle | The prominence above the medial epicondyle of the femur to which the tendon of the adductor magnus attaches. Synonym: tuberculum adductorium. (05 Mar 2000) |
