| retroviruses type c, avian | A genus of the family retroviridae with type c morphology, that causes malignant and other diseases in wild birds and domestic fowl. (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|
| retroviruses type b, mammalian | A genus of the family retroviridae consisting of a few exogenous, vertically transmitted and endogenous viruses of mice. It is associated with mammary carcinoma and T-cell lymphoma. (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|---|
| retroviruses type c, mammalian | A genus of retroviridae comprising endogenous sequences in mammals, related reticuloendotheliosis viruses of birds, and a reptilian species. Many species contain oncogenes and cause leukaemias and sarcomas. (12 Dec 1998) |
| retroviruses, type d | A genus of the family retroviridae consisting of oncogenic exogenous retroviruses that contain type d particles. They include the type species, mason-pfiser monkey virus, isolated from mammary carcinoma and normal tissues in rhesus monkeys, and several other serotypes of simian type d retroviruses (retroviruses type d, simian), all of which cause simian aids (saids) and other malignancies. The permanent human fibroblast virus (pmfv) is also type d. The core of the type d viruses is the intracytoplasmic type a particle and its mechanism of budding from the cell membrane is similar to the type b oncoviruses. (12 Dec 1998) |
| retroviruses type d, simian | Type d retroviruses that cause simian acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (saids) and malignancies in monkeys. at least five serotypes of srv are recognised: srv-1, srv-2 (retrovirus-d/new england), srv-3 (mason-pfiser monkey virus), srv-4, and srv-5. Subcutaneous fibrosarcoma is associated with srv-1 infection and retroperitoneal fibromatosis is associated with srv-2 infection. (12 Dec 1998) |
| avian adenovirus type 1 proteinase | <enzyme> 206 aa residues of which 66% are homologous to human ad2 emzyme embl/genbank l13161 Registry number: EC 3.4.22.- Synonym: aavl proteinase, aavl endopeptidase (26 Jun 1999) |
| retroviruses, simian | Classes of retroviruses for which monkeys or apes are hosts. Those isolated from the west african green monkey and the asian rhesus macaque monkey are of particular interest because of their similarities to viruses causing cancer and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (aids) in humans. (12 Dec 1998) |
| avian | <zoology> Relating to, affecting, resembling or derived from a bird. (02 Jan 1998) |
| avian achondroplasia | <veterinary> An achondroplasia seen in several breeds of domestic chickens. Inheritance: autosomal dominant. (05 Mar 2000) |
| avian diphtheria | An infection by the fowlpox virus in which tracheal involvement is especially severe. See: fowlpox. Synonym: fowl diphtheria. (05 Mar 2000) |
| avian encephalomyelitis virus | <virology> A virus of the genus Enterovirus (family Picornaviridae) causing avian infectious encephalomyelitis in young chicks. (05 Mar 2000) |
| avian erythroblastosis | <veterinary> An expression of disease of the avian leukosis-sarcoma complex; characterised by severe anaemia and large numbers of erythroblasts in the blood; chickens are most susceptible but fatal natural infections have been reported in guinea fowl. Synonym: fowl erythroblastosis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| avian erythroblastosis virus | <virology> Group of C type RNA tumour viruses (Oncovirinae) that cause various leukaemias and other tumours in birds. The acute leukaemia viruses, that are replication defective and require helper viruses, include avian erythroblastosis (AEV), myeloblastosis (AMV) and myelo cytomatosis viruses. AEV carries two transforming genes, v erbA and v erbB, the cellular homologue of the latter is the structural gene for the epidermal growth factor receptor. AMV carries v myb and causes a myeloid leukaemia, avian myelocytomatosis virus carries v myc. The avian lymphatic leukaemia viruses (ALV) are also Retroviridae but are replication competent and induce neoplasia only after several months, they often occur in conjunction with replication defective leukaemia viruses. (02 Jan 1998) |
| avian herpesvirus 1 | <virology> A virus causing avian infectious laryngotracheitis in chickens. (05 Mar 2000) |
| avian herpesvirus 2 | <virology> A virus causing Marek's disease in chickens. (05 Mar 2000) |
| avian infectious encephalomyelitis | <veterinary> A disease of very young chicks caused by a picornavirus and characterised by tremor, ataxia, somnolence, and finally death. Synonym: epidemic tremor. (05 Mar 2000) |
