| regio cervicalis lateralis | The region of the neck bounded by the sternocleidomastoid muscle, the trapezius muscle, and the upper border of the clavicle, including the omoclavicular triangle. Synonym: lateral region of neck, regio cervicalis lateralis, trigonum cervicale posterius. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|
| regio cervicalis anterior | The area of the neck bounded by the mandible, the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, and the anterior midline of the neck; it is subdivided into carotid, muscular, submandibular, and submental triangles. Synonym: anterior region of neck, regio cervicalis anterior, trigonum cervicale anterius. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| regio cervicalis posterior | The back of neck, including the suboccipital region. Synonym: regio nuchalis, nuchal region, posterior neck region, regio cervicalis posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| regio lateralis | The area of the abdomen on each side of the umbilical region between transpyloric plane and intertubercular or interspinous plane. Synonym: regio lateralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena ventriculi lateralis lateralis | A vein draining deep portions of the temporal and parietal lobes; it runs in the lateral wall of the lateral ventricle to terminate in the superior thalamostriate vein. Synonym: vena ventriculi lateralis lateralis, lateral atrial vein, lateral vein of lateral ventricle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ansa cervicalis | A loop in the cervical plexus consisting of fibres from the first three cervical nerves. Fibres from a loop between the C-1 and C-2 spinal nerves accompany the hypoglossal nerve for a short distance, leaving it as the superior root of the ansa cervicalis. Fibres from a loop between the C-2 and C-3 spinal nerves form the inferior root of the ansa cervicalis. Most commonly, the roots merge, forming the ansa cervicalis, which gives rise to branches innervating infrahyoid muscles. Synonym: cervical loop, loop of hypoglossal nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cervicalis ascendens | <anatomy, artery> Origin, usually a terminal branch of the thyrocervical trunk (along with interior thyroid artery); distribution, muscles of neck and spinal cord; anastomoses, branches of vertebral, occipital, ascending pharyngeal, and deep cervical. Synonym: arteria cervicalis ascendens, cervicalis ascendens. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cervicalis profunda | <anatomy, artery> Origin, terminal branch of costocervical trunk (along with superior intercostal artery); distribution, posterior deep muscles of neck; anastomoses, branches of occipital, ascending cervical, and vertebral. Synonym: arteria cervicalis profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cervicalis superficialis | <anatomy, artery> Origin, branch of thyrocervical trunk, running with spinal accessory nerve deep to trapezius muscle. See: superficial branch of the transverse cervical artery. Synonym: arteria cervicalis superficialis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| radix inferior ansae cervicalis | Fibres from the second and third cervical nerves that pass forward and downward along the internal jugular vein; they contribute to the ansa cervicalis and innervate the infrahyoid muscles. Synonym: descendens cervicalis, radix inferior ansae cervicalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| radix superior ansae cervicalis | The fibres that arise from the first and second cervical nerves, accompany the hypoglossal nerve, then branch off to meet the inferior root in the ansa cervicalis; they innervate the infrahyoid muscles. Synonym: descendens hypoglossi, descending branch of hypoglossal nerve, radix superior ansae cervicalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| rami inferiores nervi transversi cervicalis | <anatomy, nerve> Branch of transverse cervical nerve providing cutaneous innervation in lower part of anterior triangle of neck. Synonym: rami inferiores nervi transversi cervicalis [colli]. (05 Mar 2000) |
| rami laryngopharyngei ganglii cervicalis superioris | Branches conveying postganglionic sympathetic fibres from the superior cervical ganglion to the pharyngeal plexus. Synonym: rami laryngopharyngei ganglii cervicalis superioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ramus cervicalis nervi facialis | An alternate term for cervical branch of facial nerve. Ramus chiasmaticus, the chiasmatic branch, a branch of the middle cerebral artery to the optic chiasm. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ramus superior nervi transversalis cervicalis | <anatomy, nerve> Branch providing cutaneous innervation in upper part of anterior triangle of neck. Synonym: ramus superior nervi transversalis cervicalis (colli). (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena cervicalis profunda | <anatomy, vein> Large vein running with the artery of the same name between the semispinalis capitis and semispinalis cervicis draining the deep muscles at the back of the neck and emptying into the brachiocephalic or the vertebral vein. Synonym: vena cervicalis profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
