an equimolecular mixture of two enantiomorphic isomers, being optically inactive in solution because of the presence of the same number of dextro- and levorotatory molecules. In the solid state it may have the properties of a loosely bound molecular compound. Called also racemic form, racemic mixture, or racemic modification.
