| 설명 | 청소년기에 생기는 정신질환의 하나. 자신의 체중에 관해서 신경을 많이 쓰는 사람이 자신의 먹는 욕구를 억제하지 못해서 주체할 수 없을 정도로 많이 먹고, 자신의 체중을 유지하기 위해서 자신이 먹었던 음식을 토하거나 설사제의 사용, 극심한 다이어트를 하여 자신의 체중을 정상으로 유지하는 상태를 말한다. 대개 이런 병을 가진 사람은 자신의 체중을 비정상적인 방법(토하거나 설사제, 극도의 다이어트)으로 정상범위를 유지하지만 체중유지를 위한 비정상적인 방법으로 인하여 몸의 이상이 초래되고, 자신의 먹는 모습을 남에게 보여주지 않기 때문에 사회에서 격리되어 우울증의 증상을 보이기도 한다. |

| 설명 | 음식물에 대한 욕구가 부족하거나 없어지는 것. 식욕은 공복감을 느낌으로써 생기고, 음식을 먹음으로써 잠재적으로 느끼게 되는 것이 일반적이나 무엇이 식욕을 지배하는가에 대한 근본적 메커니즘은 아직 확실히 밝혀지지 않았다. 각종병, 약물의 부작용, 중독 등에서 식욕부진이 나타난다. 또 식욕은 심인성 인자에 영향 받기 쉬워 슬픔, 불안 등의 정신상태에서 저하된다. |

| 설명 | 먹는 것을 거부하거나 두려워하는 병적증상. 생명을 위협할 정도의 극단적인 체중 감소가 특징적인 질환이다. 사춘기의 미혼여성이 심한 살빼기(30kg 정도거나 그 이하), 무월경, 무식욕(섭식거부)이 생겨 살이 마르고 있는데도 활발하게 활동함으로써 생긴다. 구역, 구토, 복부팽만감, 변비가 있고, 편식, 몰래먹음, 충동적 과식 등의 식사습관의 이상도 볼 수 있다. 살빼는 약, 설사제, 관장약의 남용도 있을 수 있다. 2차성 저혈압, 저체온, 기초대사저하도 있다. 강박증적 경향, 히스테리적 경향, 완고함, 거부경향이 있다. 심리적 해석으로서 성숙혐오, 여자가 되는 것의 거부, 모녀간의 장애 등이 거론된다. 시몬즈병, 뇌하수체, 시상하부의 뇌종양과의 감별이 필요하다. |
