| pulsus trigeminus | A pulse in which the beats occur in trios, a pause following every third beat. Synonym: pulsus trigeminus. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|
| motor nucleus of trigeminus | <anatomy, nerve> A group of motor neurons innervating the muscles of mastication (masseter, temporalis, internal and external pterygoid muscles) and the musculi tensor tympani and tensor veli palatini. The nucleus lies in the upper pontine tegmentum medial to the main sensory nucleus of the trigeminus. Synonym: nucleus motorius nervi trigemini, masticatory nucleus, motor nucleus of trigeminus, nucleus masticatorius. (05 Mar 2000) |

| principal sensory nucleus of the trigeminus | <anatomy, nerve> The term commonly used to designate the nucleus pontis nervi trigeminalis; located in pons lateral to the motor trigeminal nucleus; receives primary sensory (touch and pressure) input via the trigeminal nerve, projects to ventral posteromedial nucleus of thalamus. Synonym: nucleus sensorius principalis nervi trigemini, nucleus sensorius superior nervi trigemini, principal sensory nucleus of the trigeminus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| spinal nucleus of the trigeminus | The long sensory nucleus extending from the caudal border of the pontine sensory nucleus of the trigeminus down through the lateral region of the rhombencephalon into the upper three segments of the spinal cord's dorsal horn; it receives the fibres of the sensory root of the trigeminal nerve which descend along its lateral border as the spinal tract of trigeminal nerve. Synonym: nucleus tractus spinalis nervi trigemini, descending nucleus of the trigeminus, spinal nucleus of the trigeminus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nervus trigeminus | <anatomy, nerve> The trigeminal nerve is responsible for sensory enervation of the face and motor enervation to muscles of mastication (chewing). There are three divisions of the fifth cranial nerve, ophthalmic, maxillary and mandibular. Lesions of the sensory root to the trigeminal nerve can result in pain or loss of sensation in the face. Lesion of the motor root result in deviation of the jaw toward the paralysed side and difficulty chewing. Synonym: cranial nerve V. (27 Sep 1997) |
| descending nucleus of the trigeminus | The long sensory nucleus extending from the caudal border of the pontine sensory nucleus of the trigeminus down through the lateral region of the rhombencephalon into the upper three segments of the spinal cord's dorsal horn; it receives the fibres of the sensory root of the trigeminal nerve which descend along its lateral border as the spinal tract of trigeminal nerve. Synonym: nucleus tractus spinalis nervi trigemini, descending nucleus of the trigeminus, spinal nucleus of the trigeminus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| trigeminus | Synonym: trigeminal. Origin: L. Threefold, fr. Tri-+ geminus, twin (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus | Synonym: pulse. Origin: L. A stroke, pulse (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus abdominalis | The soft, compressible aortic pulse occurring in certain abdominal disorders. Synonym: pulsus abdominalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus alternans | Mechanical alternation, a pulse regular in time but with alternate beats stronger and weaker, often detectable only with the sphygmomanometer and usually indicating serious myocardial disease. Synonym: pulsus alternans. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus anadicrotus | A pulse wave showing one or more notches or indentations on its rising limb that are sometimes detectable by palpation. Synonym: pulsus anadicrotus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus bigeminus | A pulse in which the beats occur in pairs. Synonym: bigemina, coupled pulse, pulsus bigeminus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus bisferiens | An arterial pulse with peaks that may be palpable. Synonym: pulsus bisferiens. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus caprisans | A bounding leaping pulse, irregular in both force and rhythm. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus catacrotus | A pulse in which there is an upward notch interrupting the descending limb of the sphygmogram. Synonym: pulsus catacrotus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pulsus catadicrotus | A catacrotic pulse in which there are two interrupting upward notches. Synonym: pulsus catadicrotus. (05 Mar 2000) |
