| 설명 | 주혈흡충(schistosoma)에 의해 발생하는 기생충성 질병. 주로 물 속에 있는 주혈흡충의 꼬리유충이 피부를 뚫고 침입한 후에 감염이 일어난다. 꼬리 유층이 들어있는 음료수를 마셔도 감염되며 여성보다 남성의 감염률이 높다. 주혈흡충의 종숙주는 사람, 개, 고양이, 말, 돼지, 소, 사슴, 쥐, 원숭이, 두더지 등이며 충체의 종에 따라 다르다. 세계적으로 말라리아 다음으로 감염률이 높은 기생충 질병이며, 세계보건기구(WHO)가 선정한 6대 열대병 중 하나이다. 매년 전세계적으로 20여 만 명의 사망자가 발생한다. 한국은 법정전염병 제4군으로 지정하고 있다. 전세계적으로 인체에 기생하는 주혈흡충은 일본주혈흡충, 만손주혈흡충, 방광주혈흡충, 메콩주혈흡충, 말레이반도의 말레이주혈흡충, 서아프리카의 인터칼라툼주혈흡충 등 여섯 종류가 알려져 있다. |

| 설명 | 만성적으로 기도의 폐쇄를 가져오는 병을 이르는 말. 대개 만성기관지염, 기관지 천식, 폐기종의 3가지 병을 말한다. 만성기관지염이란 기관지의 만성염증을 말한다. 기관지의 염증으로 인해서 기관지의 점막에 부종이 생기고 이로 인해서 기관지의 내경이 좁아져서 기도의 폐쇄를 가져온다. 대개 흡연과 밀접한 연관을 가지며, 호흡곤란, 기침, 그리고 가래(대개 색이 푸르고 점도가 높은 가래)가 증상으로 나타난다. 폐기종은 기관지의 벽을 지지하는 조직의 파괴에 의해서 기관지가 제 모양을 갖추지 못하고 무너지게 되어 기도의 폐쇄가 일어나는 병이다. 즉 기관지가 관 모양으로 팽팽하게 펴지는 것을 지지하는 조직의 파괴에 의해서 관모양으로 펴지지 못해 결국은 폐포내에 공기가 차고 폐포벽이 파열되고 기관지가 좁아지게 되는 병을 말한다. 기관지천식이란 여러 가지 자극에 대해서 기관지가 과민한 반응을 보여서 생기는 기관지의 가역적인 폐쇄를 의미한다. 즉 정상인에게서는 기관지의 폐쇄를 보이지 않는 자극에 대해서 기관지의 폐쇄가 생기고 그 자극이 없을 경우에는 기관지의 폐쇄가 없어지는 병을 말한다. |

| schistosomiasis | Disease (bilharzia) caused by digenetic trematode worms of the genus Schistosoma, the adults of which live in the urinary or mesenteric blood vessels. Eggs shed by the female worms pass to the outside in the urine or faeces, but many also lodge in and obstruct the blood flow in the liver. Eosinophils seem to be particularly important in the killing of the invasive larval stage (schistosomulum).
