| pseudotuberculosis | A disease of a wide variety of animal species caused by the bacterium Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Epizootics of pseudotuberculosis are commonly seen in birds and rodents, often with high case fatality rates. In man, seven clinical entities are recognised: primary focalised infections (pseudoappendicitis, acute mesenteric lymphadenitis, or acute terminal ileitis), primary generalised infections (septicaemia or scarlatiniform fever), and secondary immunological phenomena (erythema nodosum or arthralgia). | pseudotuberculosis |
any of various animal diseases resembling tuberculosis but caused by pathogens other than the tubercle bacillus; caseous swellings resembling tubercular nodules (pseudotubercles) form in organs throughout the body, and there may be fever and diarrhea with a fatal outcome.
