| ala temporalis | Strong squamous processes extending in a broad superolateral curve from the body of the sphenoid bone. The greater wing presents these suraces (facies): 1) cerebral surface: forms anterior third of the floor of the lateral portions of the middle cranial fossa; 2) temporal surface: forms the deepest portion of the temporal fossa; 3) infratemporal surface, forms the "roof" of the infratemporal fossa; 4) orbital surface: forms posterolateral wall of orbit. The greater wing forms the inferior border of the supraorbital fissure, and is perforated at its root by foramina rotundum ovale, and spinosum and the pterygoid canal. Synonym: ala major ossis sphenoidalis, ala temporalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| angulus oculi temporalis | The angle formed by the junction of the lateral parts of the upper and lower eyelids. Synonym: angulus oculi lateralis, angulus oculi temporalis, external canthus, lateral canthus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| apex partis petrosae ossis temporalis | The irregular antero-medial extremity of the petrous part on which the anterior end of the carotid canal opens. Synonym: apex partis petrosae ossis temporalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria temporalis anterior | <anatomy, artery> A branch of the insular part of the middle cerebral artery distributed to the cortex of the anterior part of the temporal lobe. Synonym: arteria temporalis anterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria temporalis intermedia | <anatomy, artery> A branch of the insular part of the middle cerebral artery supplying the cortex of the temporal lobe between the anterior and posterior temporal arteries. Synonym: arteria temporalis intermedia. (05 Mar 2000) |

| arteria temporalis profunda | <anatomy, artery> Deep temporal artery, two in number, anterior and posterior; origin, maxillary; distribution, temporal muscle and periosteum, bone and diploe of temporal fossa; anastomoses, branches of superficial temporal, lacrimal, and middle meningeal. Synonym: arteria temporalis profunda. (05 Mar 2000) |
