| 설명 | 혈청성분 중 면역에 중요한 역할을 하고, 또 항체 작용을 하는 단백질의 총칭. 항체 작용이란 항원에 선택적으로 반응하는 기능인데, 이 작용을 하는 것은 대부분 전기이동법으로 나눌 경우 감마 영역에 속하므로 감마글로불린이라고도 한다. 기본구조는 분자량 약 2만 3,000의 L사슬(가벼운 사슬) 한 쌍과 5만~7만의 H사슬(무거운 사슬) 한 쌍이 S-S 다리걸침에 의해 결합된 것이다.  |

| 설명 | 산발적 또는 유행성으로 발생하는 급성바이러스병으로서, 폴리오바이러스가 원인균이며 이것이 척수의 앞뿔세포를 선택적으로 침범하여 운동마비를 일으키는 것이 특징이다. 즉, 이완마비를 나타내는 것이나 경련성 및 곰지락 마비를 나타내는 뇌성소아마비 등을 총칭하는 표현이다. 척수염이지만 척수뿐만 아니라 대뇌, 소뇌 등에도 염증을 일으킨다. 이 바이러스는 창자바이러스로 감염시 위창자관염이 발생하는데 소수의 환자에서 혈행으로 바이러스가 중추신경계를 침범하게 된다. 일단 급성시에서 회복되더라도 앞뿔운동신경세포들의 많은 수가 동시에 파괴되기 때문에 이들이 지배하고 있는 근육의 마비를 초래하게 된다. 소아에 이환율이 높고 마비를 일으키므로 척수성 소아마비라고도 한다. |

| poliomyelitis | <disease, virology> An acute viral disease, occurring sporadically and in epidemics and characterised clinically by fever, sore throat, headache and vomiting, often with stiffness of the neck and back. In the minor illness these may be the only symptoms. The major illness, which may or may not be preceded by the minor illness, is characterised by involvement of the central nervous system, stiff neck, pleocytosis in the spinal fluid and perhaps paralysis. There may be subsequent atrophy of groups of muscles, ending in contraction and permanent deformity.
