| phosphoglucomutase | <enzyme> An enzyme that catalyses the conversion of alpha d-glucose 1-phosphate to alpha d-glucose-6-phosphate. Chemical name: alpha-D-Glucose 1,6-phosphomutase Registry number: EC 5.4.2.2 (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|
Synonyms : Phosphomutase, Glucose
| phosphoglucomutase |
[EC 5.4.2.2] an enzyme of the isomerase class requiring the presence of the intermediate glucose 1,6-bisphosphate to catalyze the interconversion of glucose 1-phosphate and glucose 6-phosphate, a step in the formation and utilization of glycogen. It also catalyzes the interconversion of the 1-phosphate and 5-phosphate isomers of ribose.
