| periapical periodontitis | Inflammation of the periapical tissue. It includes general, unspecified, or acute nonsuppurative inflammation. Chronic nonsuppurative inflammation is periapical granuloma. Suppurative inflammation is periapical abscess. (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|
| apical periodontitis | Inflammation of the periodontal ligament surrounding the root apex of a tooth; usually a consequence of pulpal inflammation or necrosis. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| periodontitis | Gum disease, gingivitis. (12 Dec 1998) |
| periodontitis complex | Vertical resorption of the alveolar process with pockets of uneven depth on adjacent teeth, and with traumatic occlusion as a factor. (05 Mar 2000) |
| periodontitis, juvenile | Localised periodontitis in teenagers and young adults. The onset is during the circumpubertal period but the diagnosis can be made beyond puberty. Lesions are confined predominantly to the first permanent molars or incisors and the distribution of lesions is usually symmetrical. The gingiva may appear normal. The lesions are highly active immediately following puberty but later destruction may slow or cease spontaneously. The disease is four times more prevalent in females than males and more prevalent in african americans than in other races or ethnic groups. (12 Dec 1998) |
| periodontitis simplex | Horizontal resorption of the alveolar process with pockets of even depth on adjacent teeth; traumatic occlusion is not a factor. (05 Mar 2000) |
| suppurative periodontitis | Periodontitis accompanied by purulent exudate. (05 Mar 2000) |
| juvenile periodontitis | A degenerative periodontal disease of adolescents in which the periodontal destruction is out of proportion to the local irritating factors present on the adjacent teeth; inflammatory changes become superimposed, and bone loss, migration, and extrusion are observed. Two forms are recognised: 1) localised, in which the destruction is limited to the incisors and first molars; 2) generalised, involving all of the teeth. Synonym: periodontosis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| periapical | <dentistry> X-ray of individual teeth or groups of teeth. (08 Jan 1998) |
| periapical abscess | <dentistry> Acute or chronic inflammation of tissues surrounding the apical portion of a tooth, associated with the collection of pus, resulting from infection following pulp infection through a carious lesion or as a result of an injury causing pulp necrosis. (12 Dec 1998) |
| periapical cemental dysplasia | <dentistry> A benign, painless, non-neoplastic condition of the jaws which occurs almost exclusively in middle-aged black females. The lesions are usually multiple, most frequently involve vital mandibular anterior teeth, surround the root apices, and are initially radiolucent (becoming more opaque as they mature). Synonym: periapical osteofibrosis. (21 Jun 2000) |
| periapical curettage | <dentistry, procedure> Removal of a cyst or granuloma from its pathologic bony crypt, utilizing a curette, the removal of tooth fragments and debris from sockets at the time of extraction or of bone sequestra subsequently. (05 Mar 2000) |
| periapical cyst | An inflammatory odontogenic cyst derived histogenetically from Malassez' epithelial rests surrounding the root apex of a nonvital tooth. Synonym: periapical cyst, radicular cyst, root end cyst. (05 Mar 2000) |
| periapical diseases | Diseases of the periapical tissue. (12 Dec 1998) |
| periapical granuloma | Chronic nonsuppurative inflammation of periapical tissue resulting from irritation following pulp disease or endodontic treatment. (12 Dec 1998) |
| periapical osteofibrosis | <dentistry> A benign, painless, non-neoplastic condition of the jaws which occurs almost exclusively in middle-aged black females. The lesions are usually multiple, most frequently involve vital mandibular anterior teeth, surround the root apices, and are initially radiolucent (becoming more opaque as they mature). Synonym: periapical osteofibrosis. (21 Jun 2000) |
