| 설명 | 갑상샘속에 존재하는 조그만 호르몬 생성기관. 갑상샘속에 숨어 있으므로 눈에 잘 띄지 않는다. 그래서 흔히 갑상샘절제수술시에 같이 절제되어 부갑상샘호르몬감소가 나타나기도 한다. 부갑상샘호르몬을 생성한다. 이 호르몬은 뼈에서 혈액으로 칼슘(calcium)의 이동을 증가시키고, 위장관에서 칼슘의 흡수를 촉진시키며, 콩팥에서의 칼슘분비를 감소시키는 반면에 인산염(phosphate)의 분비를 촉진시켜, 결국은 혈중칼슘의 농도를 증가시키고 혈중인산염의 농도를 감소시킨다. 또한 이 호르몬은 비타민 D의 전환을 증가시킨다. 너무 지나친 부갑상샘호르몬의 분비가 있을 경우 골다공증(osteoporosis: 뼈에 구멍이 생기는 병적상태)과 다른 조직의 석회화를 볼 수 있다.  |

| parathyroid hormones | Polypeptide hormones (84 amino acid residues) secreted by the parathyroid glands, which promote release of calcium from bone to extracellular fluid by activating osteoblasts and inhibiting osteoclasts, indirectly promote increased intestinal absorption of calcium, and promote renal tubular reabsorption of calcium and increased renal excretion of phosphates. It is a major regulator of bone metabolism. Secretion of parathyroid hormone increases when the level of calcium in the extracellular fluid is low. Its action is opposed by calcitonin.
