| paramyosin | <protein> Protein (200-220 kD) that forms a core in the thick filaments of invertebrate muscles. The molecule is rather like the rod part of myosin and has a two chain coiled coil _ helical structure, 130 nm by 2 nm. Paramyosin is present in particularly high concentration in the catch muscle of bivalve molluscs, where it forms the almost crystalline core of the thick filaments. (18 Nov 1997) |
