| 설명 | 안구의 전면을 덮고 있는 아래위 2장의 피부 주름. 외면은 피부로 되어 있고, 내면은 결막으로 되어 있으며, 그 사이에는 눈꺼풀을 움직이게 하는 근육과 분비샘인 마이봄샘을 품고 있는 눈꺼풀판조직이 있어서 눈꺼풀의 형태를 유지하고 있다. 눈꺼풀은 안구를 보호함과 동시에, 눈을 깜박임으로서 눈물로 안구를 깨끗하게 하거나 각막을 윤기 있고 투명하게 하는 일을 한다. 또, 눈으로 들어오는 빛을 막는 일도 한다. 주로 양서류 이상의 척추동물에서 볼 수 있다. 눈꺼풀의 가장자리에는 속눈썹이 아래위에 가지런히 나 있는데, 안구를 보호하는 일을 한다. 마이봄샘에서는 지방을 분비하여 눈꺼풀 가장자리에 묻게 해서, 눈물이 얼굴로 흘러 나가는 것을 막는 일을 한다. 눈꺼풀 위쪽의 외면에 깊은 홈이 패인 것을 쌍거풀이라 하고, 홈이 없는 것을 외꺼풀이라고 하는데, 이것은 유전과 관계가 있다. |
