the oxyurids, a superfamily of small nematode phasmids with a bulbous esophagus, usually found as parasites in the cecum and colon of vertebrates, but sometimes found in insects and other invertebrates. The single family of medical or veterinary interest is Oxyuridae. In some systems of classification, Oxyuroidea is considered to be an order.
