| 설명 | 눈을 한곳에 고정시킨 채, 관찰할 수 있는 주변공간을 시야라 한다. 시야를 검사하는 가장 간단한 방법은 대면검사(confronting test)이다. 이것은 피검사자의 눈을 검사자의 눈에 맞추어 보도록 하여 눈을 고정시킨채, 검사자가 손가락끝을 위쪽, 아래쪽, 왼쪽, 오른쪽, 그리고 비스듬히 경사진 곳 등으로 옮겨보아 피검사자가 관찰할 수 있는지 여부를 정하는 검사법이다. 이보다 정확한 검사법은 자동식 컴퓨터시야검사법이 있다. 대개, 눈자체의 이상이 있어도 시야검사에서 이상이 나오지만, 이외 뇌의 이상으로 시각의 형성경로에 이상이 있어도 역시 이상소견을 보인다. |

| 설명 | 언어의 생성과 이해를 관장하는 대뇌겉질의 특정한 부위. 인간의 특징인 언어는 특정한 상대와 마음의 내용을 서로 전하기 위해 쓰는 소리이다. 상대방으로부터 들은 소리를 의미가 있는 언어로 이해하고 마음의 내용에 대응하는 언어를 소리로 내는 얼개를 영위하는 곳이 언어중추이다. 대뇌반구의 표층에 있는 대뇌겉질에 세 개의 언어중추가 있다. 여기에 관여하는 대뇌겉질의 영역을 언어야(speech area)라 한다. 이 영역은 통상적으로 왼쪽대뇌 반구에 있다. 주요 영역으로는 운동성 언어중추(브로카 중추)와 감각성 언어중추(워니케 중추)가 있다. 언어야가 손상되면 실어증이 생긴다. 운동성 언어중추의 장애가 있는 사람은 이야기나 써있는 글자는 잘 이해하지만 자발적으로 말을 잘할 수는 없다. 이것을 운동성 실어증이라 한다. 감각성 언어중추의 장애가 있는 사람은 청각은 정상적임에도 불구하고 말하는 언어나 쓰여진 문자의 의미를 알 수 없게 된다. 이것을 감각성 실어증이라 한다. |

| receptive field | That part of the retina whose photoreceptors (rods and cones) pertain to a single optic nerve fibre. The response of a neuron to stimulation of its receptive field depends on the type of neuron and the part of the field that is illuminated; an "on-centre" neuron is stimulated by light falling at the centre of its receptive field and inhibited by light falling at the periphery; an "off-centre" neuron reacts in exactly the opposite fashion; that is, it is inhibited by light falling at the centre of its receptive field. In either case, the net response depends on a complex switching action in the retina. | cardioid dark field condenser | <microscopy> A condenser designed with two reflecting surfaces, the first, a spherical surface which reflects the rays to a second, cardioid (heart-shaped) surface. The virtue in such an arrangement is that, if the cardioid surface is of true figure, the lens is both achromatic and aplanatic. It has a limiting numerical aperture of about 1.0. Thus objectives of a greater numerical aperture cannot be used successfully with it. | reversed-field pinch | <radiobiology> A toroidal magnetic confinement scheme which could constitute an alternative to the Tokamak for building a fusion reactor. It is characterised by a magnetic field mostly generated by the plasma itself, with toroidal and poloidal components of comparable intensities, in contrast with the Tokamak where most of the field is toroidal and externally applied. The name of the configuration is given by the fact that the toroidal component of the magnetic field changes sign in the outer region of the plasma.
