They are used as detergents, emulsifiers, wetting agents, defoaming agents, etc. Octoxynol-9, the compound with 9 repeating ethoxy groups, is a spermatocide. Pharmacological action: antifoaming agents, detergents, excipient, spermatocidal agents, surface-active agent.
