| nucleus vestibularis | One of a group of four main nuclei that includes: the lateral vestibular nucleus (Deiters' nucleus), medial vestibular nucleus (Schwalbe's nucleus), superior vestibular nucleus (Bechterew's nucleus), and inferior vestibular nucleus, located in the lateral region of the hindbrain beneath the floor of the rhomboid fossa. They receive primary fibres of the vestibular nerve, are reciprocally connected with the flocculonodular lobe of the cerebellum, and project by way of the medial longitudinal fasciculus to the abducens, trochlear, and oculomotor nuclei and to the ventral horn of the spinal cord. The lateral vestibular nucleus projects to the ipsilateral ventral horn of the spinal cord by the vestibulospinal tract. Synonym: nucleus vestibularis. (05 Mar 2000) |

| nucleus corporis geniculati medialis | The nerve cell groups composing the medial geniculate body (corpus geniculatum mediale). Synonym: nucleus corporis geniculati medialis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus medialis centralis thalami | A small cell group in the interthalamic adhesion of the thalamus, occupying the midline region of the internal medullary lamina, between the left and the right paracentral nucleus. Synonym: nucleus medialis centralis thalami. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus medialis thalami | A large, composite cell group in the dorsomedial region of the thalamus having reciprocal connections with the entire extent of the frontal cortex anterior to the motor cortex (area 4) and premotor cortex (area 6). The afferent connections of the medial nucleus also include projections from the olfactory cortex and amygdala. Synonym: nucleus medialis thalami, dorsomedial nucleus, mediodorsal nucleus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus olivaris accessorius medialis | A detached part of the olivary nucleus medial to the latter's main body, against the lateral side of the medial lemniscus and pyramidal tract. Synonym: nucleus olivaris accessorius medialis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nucleus preopticus medialis | A group of nerve cells forming the medial zone of the preoptic region. Synonym: nucleus preopticus medialis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| area vestibularis inferior | The area of the fundus of the internal acoustic meatus inferior to the transverse crest through which the interior portion of the vestibular (saccular) nerve passes. Synonym: area vestibularis inferior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| area vestibularis superior | The area in the fundus of the internal acoustic meatus superior to the transverse crest through which the superior part of the vestibular nerve passes to reach the macula utriculus and the ampullae of the anterior and lateral saemicircular ducts. Synonym: area vestibularis superior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| radix vestibularis | Radix vestibularis, radix superior nervi vestibulocochlearis, superior root of vestibulocochlear nerve, vestibular root of vestibulocochlear nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| paries vestibularis ductus cochlearis | The membrane separating the cochlear duct from the vestibular canal; it consists of squamous epithelial cells with microvilli toward the ductus, a basement membrane, and a thin layer of connective tissue toward the scala. Synonym: membrana vestibularis, paries vestibularis ductus cochlearis, Reissner's membrane, vestibular wall of cochlear duct. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vestibularis | Synonym: vestibular, vestibular. Origin: L. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars inferior ganglii vestibularis | The lower part of the vestibular ganglion that receives fibres from the macula of the saccule and the ampulla of the posterior saemicircular duct. Synonym: pars inferior ganglii vestibularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars superior ganglii vestibularis | Rostral part, the superior part of the vestibular ganglion that receives fibres from the maculae of the utricle and the saccule and the ampullae of the anterior and lateral saemicircular ducts. Synonym: pars superior ganglii vestibularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars vestibularis nervi vestibulocochlearis | <anatomy, nerve> The vestibular part of the acoustic (8th cranial) nerve. The vestibular nerve fibres arise from neurons of scarpa's ganglion and project peripherally to vestibular hair cells and centrally to the vestibular nuclei of the brainstem. These fibres mediate the sense of balance and head position. (12 Dec 1998) |
| glandula vestibularis major | One of two mucoid-secreting tubuloalveolar glands on either side of the lower part of the vagina, the equivalent of the bulbourethral glands in the male; ensheathed with vestibular bulbs by ischiocavernosus muscles. Thus erection and muscle contraction cause secretion into vestibule of vagina. Synonym: glandula vestibularis major, Bartholin's gland, Duverney's gland, Tiedemann's gland, vulvovaginal gland.
