| 설명 | 신경집의 슈반세포에서 생기는 종양으로 말초신경을 따라서 발생한다. 임상적으로는 서서히 커지는 무통성인 덩어리로서 발현한다. 형상은 구형, 분엽상으로 경도는 딱딱하고 탄력성이 있다. 크기는 2cm 전후의 것이 많다. |

| 설명 | 청신경(제8뇌신경)의 신경겉을 싸고 있는 집(sheath)의 슈반세포(Schwann cell)에서 기원하는 종양-뇌종양 중 비교적 흔하며 대개 40~50대에 호발한다. 증상으로는 귀울림, 난청, 소뇌기능장애 등이 있으며, 이중 귀울림이 가장 초기의 증상이다. |

By convention the "benign" schwannoma is preferably known as neurilemmoma and the "true" or malignant schwannoma is designated simply as schwannoma.
