| 설명 | 산소와 가역적으로 결합하여 조직 내에 산소를 저장하는 헴단백질. 조직헤모글로빈이라고도 하며 근조직에 많다. 분자량 17,000인 단량체 분자로, 입체구조는 헤모글로빈과 유사하지만, 알로스테릭효과를 보이지 않는다. 분자 내에 1mol의 프로토헴을 함유하여 산소친화성은 헤모글로빈보다 높다. 근육조직이 붕괴-괴사되면 혈액 속에 방출되어 소변 속에 나타난다. 미오글로빈의 생체 내에서 역할은 근조직 속에 산소를 확보하는 저장체라고 생각된다. 산소포화곡선은 헤모글로빈과는 달리, 시그모이드상(S자형)이 아닌 쌍곡선상이며, 산소와의 상호작용은 pH에 의존하지 않고, 보어효과(산소해리평형의 pH 의존성)도 나타내지 않는다. 혈색소와는 α사슬이나 β사슬과 분자량-분광학적 성질-헴함량-입체구조 등이 매우 비슷하나 이것과는 전혀 별개의 단백질로서 각각 독립적으로 합성된다. |

| myoglobin | <physiology> Protein (17.5 kD) found in red skeletal muscle. It was the first protein for which the tertiary structure was determined by X-ray diffraction, by J.C.Kendrew's group working on sperm whale myoglobin. It is a single polypeptide chain of 153 amino acids, containing a haem group bonded via its ferric iron to two histidine residues. It binds oxygen noncooperatively and has a higher affinity for oxygen than haemoglobin at all partial pressures.
