| CMGM | Chronic megakaryocytic-granulocytic myelosis |
|---|
| myelosis | 1. A condition characterised by abnormal proliferation of tissue or cellular elements of bone marrow, e.g., multiple myeloma, myelocytic leukaemia, myelofibrosis. 2. A condition in which there is abnormal proliferation of medullary tissue in the spinal cord, as in a glioma. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|
| aleukaemic myelosis | Myelosis with absence of abnormal cellular elements in peripheral blood. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| chronic nonleukaemic myelosis | A condition in which there is abnormal proliferation of leukopoietic tissue that results in immature white blood cells in the circulating blood, but the total count is within the normal range. (05 Mar 2000) |
| subleukaemic myelosis | A form of leukaemia in which abnormal cells are present in the peripheral blood, but the total leukocyte count is not elevated. Synonym: hypoleukaemia, leukopenic myelosis, subleukaemic myelosis, subleukaemia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| erythraemic myelosis | A neoplastic process involving the erythropoietic tissue, characterised by anaemia, irregular fever, splenomegaly, hepatomegaly, haemorrhagic disorders, and numerous erythroblasts in all stages of maturation (with disproportionately large numbers of less mature forms) in the circulating blood; postmortem studies reveal primitive erythroblasts and reticuloendothelial cells, not only in haemopoietic organs, but also in the kidneys, adrenal glands, and other sites. Acute and chronic forms are recognised, but in the latter there is less prominence of the immature cells; the former is also called Di Guglielmo's disease and acute erythraemia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| funicular myelosis | Degeneration of spinal cord white matter. (05 Mar 2000) |
| leukaemic myelosis | <haematology, tumour> A form of leukaemia characterised by an uncontrolled proliferation of myelopoietic cells in the bone marrow and in extramedullary sites, and the presence of large numbers of immature and mature granulocytic forms in various tissues (and organs) and in the circulating blood. The total count may range from 1000 (aleukaemic variety) to several hundred thousand per cu mm. The predominant cell is usually of the neutrophilic series, but, in a few instances, eosinophilic or basophilic granulocytes, or even megakaryocytes, may represent the chief form; early in granulocytic leukaemia, the circulating blood may contain excessive numbers of all of the granulocytic forms. Synonym: leukaemic myelosis, myelocytic leukaemia, myelogenic leukaemia, myelogenous leukaemia, myeloid leukaemia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| myelosis |
1. myelocytosis. 2. the formation of a tumor of the spinal cord.
