| 설명 | 백혈병(leukemia)란 비정상적인 백혈구 세포의 증식에 의해 일어나는 병적인 상태를 말하는데, 흔히 말초혈액에 미분화세포가 나타나며, 정상적인 적혈구세포와 백혈구세포, 혈소판의 급격한 감소를 가져와 정상적인 세포에 의해 행해지는 여러 기능의 감소를 주증상으로 하여 병원에 찾아오게 된다. 따라서 적혈구세포의 감소로 인한 빈혈, 백혈구세포의 감소로 인한 많은 감염증세(흔히 걸리지 않는 세균에 의한 감염, 지나치게 잦은 감기, 폐렴 등), 혈소판세포의 감소로 인한 출혈증상이 나타난다. 또한 피를 생산하는 골수 조직에서는 이런 비정상적인 세포의 증식만을 볼 수 있으며, 정상적인 세포의 증식은 보기 힘들다. 만성림프성 백혈병은 서양에서는 비교적 백혈병 중에서 흔한 형이지만 동양권에서는 아주 드문 백혈병의 형태이다. 대개 60세 이상의 고령층에서 많이 생기고 30세 이하에서는 거의 찾아볼 수가 없다. 혈액검사상에서 림프구의 많은 증가를 볼 수가 있고, 대신에 다른 혈액세포들은 감소를 나타낸다. 백혈병 중 예후가 좋은 편이며 대개 치료는 항암제를 이용한 화학요법을 많이 사용하며, 평균 생존기간은 4~5년이다. |

| 설명 | 사람의 소화기관은 여러 가지 기관으로 구성되어 있는데, 이중 창자관계는 식도, 위, 작은창자와 큰창자로 구성되어 있다. 입으로 먹어서 잘게 분해된 음식은 식도를 거쳐, 위에서 단백질 등이 소화되고, 샘창자에서 이자에서 분비된 소화효소에 의해 소화, 일부 흡수된 후, 대부분의 영양분은 작은창자에서 흡수된다. 큰창자는 주로 물과 미량원소, 전해질의 흡수에 이용되며, 작은창자에서 내려온 분비물을 저장해 두었다가 큰창자를 거쳐 항문으로 대변을 배설하게 된다. 큰창자는 그 위치에 따라 3부분으로 구성되어지며, 막창자, 잘룩창자 그리고 곧창자이다. 잘룩창자은 다시 오름창자, 가로창자, 내림창자로 이루어져 있으며, 이것은 구불창자란 말은 S자 모양으로 굽어져 있다는 말이다)으로 이어져 곧창자장을 거쳐 항문으로 연결된다. |

| 설명 | 림프절에 생긴 악성 종양. 이 암은 백혈병과는 다르다. 림프성 백혈병은 골수에서 생긴 림프구성 악성종양이지만, 림프종은 림프절에서 생긴 림프구성 악성종양이다. 림프종은 크게 2가지 즉 호지킨림프종(Hodgkin's lymphoma)과 비호지킨림프종(Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma)으로 나눌수 있다. 또한 비호즈킨림프종은 여러 가지의 세포형태에 따라 나누고 있다. 이 병은 단지 림프절뿐만 아니라 지라, 골수, 이외 다른 기관을 침범함으로써 악성이며, 생명에 큰 위협을 준다. 특이한 형태로 버킷림프종(Burkitt's lymphoma)가 있다. 이 병은 주로 어린이에게 일어나며 주로 중앙 아프리카에 많이 발생한다. 또한 이 병은 바이러스(Ebstein Barr virus)에 의해서 일어나는 것으로 알려져 있다. 주된 침범부위는 얼굴의 아래턱뼈이다. |

| 설명 | 림프종은 림프절에 생긴 악성 종양으로 백혈병과는 다르다. 백혈병은 골수에서 생긴 림프구성 악성종양이지만, 림프종은 림프조직에서 생긴 림프구성 악성종양이다. 크게 림프종은 2가지로 나눌 수 있는 데, 호지킨병(Hodgkin's lymphoma)과 비호지킨림프종(non-Hodgkin's lymphoma)으로 나눌 수 있다. 또한 비호지킨림프종은 여러 가지의 세포형태에 따라 나누고 있다. 이 병은 단지 림프절뿐만 아니라 지라, 골수, 이외 다른 기관을 침범함으로써 악성이며, 생명에 큰 위협을 준다. 악성림프종의 일종. 전이의 형태가 다양하여, 주위 림프절을 건너뛰어 다른 림프절로 전이하기도 한다. 또한 세포의 형태에 따라 여러 가지 종류가 있으며 대개 치료는 방사선치료와 화학요법을 복합하여 사용한다. |
