[USP] an organophosphorus insecticide having potent anticholinesterase activity; especially effective against Schistosoma haematobium. Administered topically as an ectoparasiticide in humans, and sometimes orally as an anthelmintic; used more commonly in veterinary medicine as an oral anthelmintic. Overdosage can cause organophosphorus compound poisoning (q.v.). Called also trichlorfon and trichlorphon.
