| 설명 | 포유류의 음낭 속에 있는 공 모양의 기관. 좌우 한 쌍이 있으며, 정자를 만들고 남성 호르몬을 분비한다. 태생 6주에 발생이 시작되며 남성호르몬과 뮬러억제물질(Mullerian inhibiting substance)의 영향으로 분화가 일어난다. 태생 2개월 말에는 고환의 후복벽에 존재하나 그 후 하강이 일어나 태생 3개월 초에는 서혜부 위치로 내려온다. 정상으로는 음낭내에 위치하는 두 개의 달걀모양의 장기이다. 각 고환의 주위는 외측중피층과 내측백색피막으로 둘러싸이고, 소엽으로 나눠져 있다. 소엽내에는 정세관이 있어서 정자를 생성하고 있다. 또한 특수 간질세포(Leydig cell)가 테스토스테론을 분비한다.  |

| malignant mesothelioma | <oncology, tumour> A mesothelioma is a tumour of the lining of the lung and chest cavity, known as the pleura. Benign mesotheliomas do occur but are much more rare than the malignant type. Malignant mesothelioma affects men more commonly and about 80% of cases have a history for prior exposure to asbestos. | mesothelioma | <oncology, tumour> Malignant tumour of the mesothelium, usually of lung, caused by exposure to asbestos fibres, particularly those of crocidolite, the fibres of which are thin and straight and penetrate to the deep layers of the lung. Because of their shape, the fibres puncture the macrophage phagosome and are released, leading to a chronic inflammatory state that is thought to contribute to development of the tumour. | mesothelioma, cystic | A peritoneal mesothelioma affecting mainly young females and producing cysts of variable size and number lined by a single layer of benign mesothelial cells. The disease follows a benign course and is compatible with a normal life expectancy, requiring occasionally partial excision or decompression for relief of pain or other symptoms.
