| meromyosin | <protein> Fragments of myosin formed by trypsin digestion. Heavy meromyosin (HMM) has the hinge region and ATPase activity, light meromyosin (LMM) is mostly _ helical and is the portion normally laterally associated with other LMM to form the thick filament itself. (18 Nov 1997) |

| meromyosin |
a fragment of the myosin molecule isolated by treatment with proteolytic enzymes; there are two types, heavy (H-meromyosin) and light (L-meromyosin). L-meromyosin makes up the major part of the rodlike backbone of the molecule; H-meromyosin contains the subfragment responsible for the ATPase activity of myosin. See Plate 35 at muscle.
