| medulla ossium rubra | Bone marrow in which the meshes contain the developmental stages of erythrocytes, leukocytes, and megakaryocytes. Synonym: medulla ossium rubra. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|
| medulla ossium | <haematology> The soft, spongy tissue found in the centre of most large bones that produces the cellular components of blood: white cells, red cells and platelets (haemopoiesis). It is also the most radiation sensitive tissue of the body. (12 May 1997) |
|---|---|
| medulla ossium flava | Bone marrow in which the meshes of the reticular network are filled with fat. Synonym: medulla ossium flava. (05 Mar 2000) |
| substantia compacta ossium | The compact, noncancellous portion of bone that consists largely of concentric lamellar osteons and interstitial lamellae. Synonym: substantia compacta, compact substance, substantia compacta ossium. (05 Mar 2000) |
| juncturae ossium | Alternative name for articulationes. See: articulatio. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lamina internal ossium cranii | The inner table of one of the cranial bones; it is more compact and harder than the outer table. Synonym: lamina internal ossium cranii. (05 Mar 2000) |
| granulosis rubra nasi | Erythema, papules, and occasional vesicles of the tip of the nose and extending upward and laterally to the cheeks, resulting from occlusion and chronic inflammation of sweat ducts. (05 Mar 2000) |
| miliaria rubra | An eruption of papules and vesicles at the orifices of sweat glands, accompanied by redness and inflammatory reaction of the skin. Synonym: heat rash, lichen infantum, lichen strophulosus, prickly heat, strophulus, summer rash, tropical lichen, lichen tropicus, wildfire rash. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pityriasis rubra | Generalised exfoliation with scaling of the skin and usually with erythema (erythroderma); may be a drug reaction or associated with various benign dermatoses, lupus erythematosus, lymphomas, or of undetermined cause. Synonym: dermatitis exfoliativa, pityriasis rubra, Wilson's disease. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pityriasis rubra pilaris | A chronic skin disease characterised by small follicular papules, disseminated reddish-brown scaly patches, and often, palmoplantar hyperkeratosis. The papules are about the size of a pin and topped by a horny plug. (12 Dec 1998) |
| polycythaemia rubra vera | <haematology> A condition characterised by enlargement of the spleen and the increased production of red blood cells by the bone marrow. Diagnosis is based on an increased number and volume of red cells. The total number of white blood cells and platelets may also be increased. Treatment will vary according to the age of the patient and severity of the disease. This condition carries an increased risk of developing acute leukaemia. The disease usually begins in late middle life and is slightly more common in males. (11 Nov 1997) |
| polycythemia rubra | Overproduction (proliferation) of red blood cells due to bone marrow disease (myeloproferative disorder). Pv tends to evolve into acute leukaemia or a condition with the marrow replaced by scar tissue (myelofibrosis) (12 Dec 1998) |
| polycythemia rubra vera | Overproduction (proliferation) of red blood cells due to bone marrow disease (myeloproferative disorder). Pv tends to evolve into acute leukaemia or a condition with the marrow replaced by scar tissue (myelofibrosis) (12 Dec 1998) |
| keratosis rubra figurata | A dermatosis characterised by hyperkeratotic plaques of bizarre, geographic configuration, associated with erythrodermic areas that may vary remarkably in size, shape, and position from day to day; onset is usually in the first year of life; autosomal dominant inheritance. Synonym: keratosis rubra figurata. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lochia rubra | The initial discharge stained with blood. Synonym: lochia rubra. (05 Mar 2000) |
| adrenal medulla | The inner part of the adrenal gland; it synthesises, stores and releases catecholamines. (12 Dec 1998) |
