| 설명 | 대뇌속의 제3뇌실 주위에 존재하는 큰 달걀 모양의 신경세포체로 이루어진 회색질이다. 후각을 제외한 모든 감각 즉 체성감각, 시각, 청각, 미각 등이 대뇌피질에 도달하기전 거쳐가는 중간 경유지이다. 따라서 이 곳이 파괴시 이상의 감각이 전해지지 않는다. |

| 설명 | 몸의 중심(대개 몸통, body를 말한다)에서 가까운 쪽으로 움직이는 경우를 말한다. 반대말로 가쪽(lateral)을 쓴다. 여기서 내, 외측의 기준은 사람의 몸을 기준으로 삼는다. 즉, 만약 팔이 몸에서 멀어지는 쪽으로 이동하면 가쪽으로 움직였다라고 하고, 팔이 몸에 가까워지는 쪽으로 움직이면 안쪽으로 움직였다고 말한다. 이 말은 아주 자주 쓰이는 말로써, 거의 모든 의학부분에서 접할 수 있는 말이다. |

| medial nucleus of thalamus | A large, composite cell group in the dorsomedial region of the thalamus having reciprocal connections with the entire extent of the frontal cortex anterior to the motor cortex (area 4) and premotor cortex (area 6).
