| 설명 | 전염병에 대하여 인공적으로 면역을 주기 위해 생체에 투여하는 항원의 하나. 병원체 및 독소에 대한 방어기구를 강화할 목적으로 사용되는 미생물제제를 말한다. 프랑스의 미생물학자 L. 파스퇴르에 의하여 제창된 용어로서, 어떤 감염증에 대하여 인공적으로 면역을 얻기 위하여 그 병원 미생물 또는 그 독소액에 적당한 조작을 가하여 만든 것을 말한다. |

| 설명 | 주로 소아에서 일어나고, 그 결과로 지속성 면역을 주는 전염성의 paramyxovirus 병. 흡기에 의해서 감염되는데, 가장 농후한 바이러스감염은 침샘내에 생기며, 특히 턱밑샘이나 혀밑샘보다도 귀밑샘이 더욱 심하다. 잠복기는 18~22일이다. 감염은 약 75%의 증례에서 증상을 나타낸다. 이들 중 귀밑샘염은 70%에서, 수막염은 10~15%(이들 중 반수에서 무증상성 수액세포 증가증이 동반된다)에서 일어난다. 부고환고환염이 사춘기 후의 남성에서 생기지만 그 후에 불임증을 속발하는 일은 드물다. 그 외의 증상은 보다 드물게 나타나는데 이자염, 관절염, 심근염, 난소염, 갑상샘염 및 젖샘염 등이 있다. 발열과 환부의 유통성 염증은 최초의 2일간에 가장 현저하고 다음 4~5일이 지나면 서서히 가라앉는다. 동시에 한 부위 이상을 침습하는 수도 있으며 가끔 속발적으로 침습되고 질환의 전 경과는 2~3주에 이른다. 부수되는 영속성의 신경학적 손상을 동반하는 수막뇌염은 드물다. |

| 설명 | 임신기간 중에 산모가 풍진에 걸리면 이 풍진 바이러스는 태반을 통해서 태아에게 전달되어서 태아의 풍진감염을 일으킨다. 임신 첫 3개월 동안, 특히 임신 첫달에 태아가 풍진의 감염을 받으면, 신생아에서 선천기형, 즉 눈에서 촛점을 정확히 맞추어주는 렌즈의 역할을 하는 수정체의 혼탁(백내장), 심장기형, 귀머거리 및 심한 지능박약을 동반하는 소두증 등이 발생하는 수가 많다. |

| 설명 | 자궁이란 태아가 수태되어서 분만전까지 발육하고 성장하는 공간이다. 자궁속에 병변이 있어 임신이 계속될 수 없거나 아니면 다른 이유로 임신되어 있는 태아를 제거하고자 할 경우에 사용되는 방법이다. 여기서 긁어내기 위하여는 우선 자궁의 입구에 해당하는 자궁목을 확장시켜야 한다. 여기에는 급속히 확장을 시도하는 법과 서서히 확장을 시도하는 2가지 방법이 있다. 자궁목을 급속히 확장할 때는 헤가르 목관확장기(Hegar's dilatator)를 사용한다. 이것은 작은 금속막대로 작은 크기부터 큰 크기까지 다양한 크기가 있어서 우선 작은 막대로 시작하여 점점 큰 크기의 막대를 자궁목에 넣어서 자궁목을 확장시킨다. 서서히 확장시킬 때는 Laminaria tent를 목관에 삽입하는 방법을 사용한다. Laminaria tent란 해초로 만든 작은 막대로 수분을 흡수하면 점점 늘어나는 성질이 있다. 이것을 자궁의 목에 넣으면 이것이 수분을 흡수하여 늘어나므로 천천히 자궁의 목이 늘어난다. 자궁목이 충분히 늘어나면 그 속으로 끝이 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 넣어서 자궁속의 병변이나 임신된 태아를 긁어내는데 여기에 사용되는 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 큐렛이라고 한다. 초기 임신중절 즉 유산과 같은 임신과 관련된 경우뿐만 아니라, 비임신 자궁의 자궁내막조직의 채취 및 제거를 위해서도 행해지는 수기이다. 이는 원칙적으로 마취하에 실시되는 것으로 자궁목관을 확장하고 기구로 자궁 내용물을 제거하고 큐렛으로 자궁내벽을 깨끗이 한다. 자궁천공이나 자궁목의 파열 등의 위험이 따르며, 수술후 감염 또는 출혈 등에 대한 주의가 필요하다. |

| 설명 | Rubella, 또는 '3일 홍역'이라고 불리는 이 병은 풍진바이러스의 감염에 의한 병으로 주로 소아기에 흔한 질병이다. 전염성이 아주 강하고 성인기에 걸렸을 경우에는 일반적으로 소아기때보다 증상이 심하다. 풍진바이러스인 Togaviridae family의 Rubivirus라는 종에 의하여 생긴다. 전염방식은 기침이나 재채기 또는 말할 때 튀어 나오는 침에 섞여 있는 작은 바이러스 입자로 전파된다. 임신부가 풍진에 감염되면 태반을 통하여 태아에 전염된다. 잠복기는 14~21일(대개 17일) 증상은 그 특징에 따라서 전구기와 발진기로 나눈다. |

| rubella | <disease, virology> An acute, usually benign, infectious disease caused by a togavirus and most often affecting children and nonimmune young adults, in which the virus enters the respiratory tract via droplet nuclei and spreads to the lymphatic system. | rubella immunization | The standard MMR vaccine is given to prevent measles, mumps and rubella (german measles). The mmr vaccine is now given in two dosages. The first should be given at12-15 months of age. The second vaccination should be given at 4-6 years (or, alternatively, 11-12 years) of age. most colleges require proof of a second measles or mmr vaccination prior to entrance. Most children should receive mmr vaccinations. Exceptions may include children born with an inability to fight off infection, some children with cancer, on treatment with radiation or drugs for cancer, on long term steroids (cortisone). People with severe allergic reactions to eggs or the drug neomycin should probably avoid the mmr vaccine. Pregnant women should wait until after delivery before being immunised with mmr. People with HIV or aids should normally receive mmr vaccine. Measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines may be administered as individual shots, if necessary, or as a measles-rubella combination.
