| 설명 | 어느 인구집단을 대상으로 한 1년간의 사망자수가 그 해의 그 인구집단 전체 인구에 대하여 차지하는 비율. 보통 인구 1,000명에 대한 숫자로 나타낸다. 그러나 원인별 사망률은 편의상 인구 10만명을 대상으로 나타낸다. 사망률은 연차-지역-직업-성별 등에 따라 다르기 때문에, 어느 집단을 다른 집단과 사망의 빈도를 비교할 때는 조정사망률(adjusted death rate)을 사용한다. 즉 한 집단의 연령별 사망률을 구한 뒤에 일정한 연령구성을 가진 표준인구의 사망률과 비교하는 것이다. 이를 조정사망률이라 하며, 처음에 말한 사망률은 이것과 대비한다는 뜻에서 조사망률이라 한다. |

is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. The maternal mortality rate is a measure of the likelihood that a pregnant woman will die from maternal causes. The number of live births used in the denominator is a proxy for the population of pregnant women who are at risk of a maternal death.
