| 설명 | 말라리아 원충을 가진 학질모기에게 물려서 감염되는 법정 전염병. 갑자기 고열이 나며 설사와 구토-발작을 일으키고 지라가 부으면서 빈혈 증상을 보인다. 급성 발작에서 회복된 후에 병이 만성화되는 경향이 있으며 때때로 재발된다. 3일열원충(Plasmodium vivax), 난형원충(P. ovale), 4일열원충(P. malariae), 열대열원충(P. falcifarum)의 네 가지 원충이 말라리아를 일으킨다. 어느 종류의 말라리아에서나 적혈구를 파괴하여 빈혈을 일으키고 헴(heme)을 소화하여 형성된 말라리아 색소가 배출된다. 이들은 큰포식세포와 망상내피계에 의해 혈액으로부터 제거되는데 이로 인해 지라비대와 간비대 및 비대된 장기와 뼈속질에 색소 침착을 관찰할 수 있다. 말라리아에 대한 면역이 없는 환자는 폐부종이나 파종성혈관내응고증이 동반된 쇼크로 사망할 수 있다. |

| 설명 | 급격한 혈액 공급의 차단으로 인해서 조직이 죽는 것을 말한다. 뇌경색증은 뇌의 조직이 혈류의 급격한 차단에 의해서 죽은 것을 말한다. 혈류가 완전히 차단되면 국소에 혈액이 없어지므로 그 조직에 경색이 생기게 된다. 경색이 생긴 부위는 혈액의 공급이 없으므로 원칙적으로는 정상적으로 혈류가 공급되는 부위보다 창백하고 희게 보인다. 이런 부분을 백색경색(white infarct) 또는 빈혈경색(anemic infarct)라 한다. 하지만 이 부위에 이차적으로 적혈구가 빠져 들어가면 그 부위는 피가 고이게 되고 적색을 띠게 된다. 이런 부분을 적색경색(red infarct) 또는 출혈경색(hemorrhagic infarct)이라고 한다. 뇌의 경색증에는 이 두 가지 모두 발생가능하다. |

| 설명 | 출생전, 출생시 혹은 출생후의 뇌의 선천기형, 손상 혹은 중추신경계의 병에 의해서 영구적이며, 비진행성인 운동신경 및 정신장애를 일으키는 경우를 뜻한다. 원인은 여러 가지가 있을 수 있으나 조산으로 인한 뇌의 산소공급의 부족, 또는 난산으로 인한 호흡장애 등이 흔한 원인이다. 증상은 대개 비진행성의 뇌 병변으로 인한 운동장애가 대표적인 증상이며 그외에 청력, 시력의 장애, 지능부전, 언어장애, 경련 및 정신장애 등이 동반될 수 있다. |

| malaria, cerebral | A condition that is most commonly seen as a severe complication of malaria, falciparum mainly involving the brain. It has also been reported to occur as a result of infection with other plasmodium species. This disease is often fatal and presents as disturbances in consciousness ranging from somnolence to coma, major motor seizures, and organic psychosis.
