||

| lunula of semilunar valve | The free border of a semilunar valve at each side of the nodulus valvulae semilunaris. Synonym: lunula valvulae semilunaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| toroidal magnetic cusps | A hybrid confinement scheme operating at high beta. A region of closed toroidal magnetic flux with high-beta plasma is separated by a narrow sheath from the surrounding field, which contains externally produced poloidal components arranged in a toroidal line-cusp configuration. Plasma migrating to the outer sheath is temporarily mirror-confined before being removed in a divertor system. (09 Oct 1997) |
| azure lunula of nails | Bluish nonblanching discoloration of the lunulae of all the fingernails in hepatolenticular degeneration. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lunula | Origin: L, prop, a little moon. See Lunule. <anatomy> Same as Lunule. Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |
| lunula valvulae semilunaris | The free border of a semilunar valve at each side of the nodulus valvulae semilunaris. Synonym: lunula valvulae semilunaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anal valves | Delicate crescent-shaped mucosal folds that pass between the lower ends of neighboring anal columns; the small pocket thus formed is an anal sinus. Synonym: valvulae anales, Morgagni's valves. (05 Mar 2000) |

| rectal valves | The three or four crescentic folds placed horizontally in the rectal mucous membrane; the superior rectal fold is situated near the beginning of the rectum on the left side; the middle rectal fold (Nelaton's fold) is most prominent and consistent and projects from the right side about 8 cm above the anus (approximately the level of the floor of the rectouterine or rectovesical pouch); the inferior rectal fold is on the left side about 5 cm above the anus. Synonym: plicae transversales recti, Houston's folds, Houston's valves, Kohlrausch's valves, plicae recti, rectal folds, rectal valves. (05 Mar 2000) |

| heart valves | Flaps of tissue that prevent regurgitation of blood from the ventricles to the atria or from the pulmonary arteries or aorta to the ventricles. (12 Dec 1998) |
| prosthetic valves | Valves used to replace human valves. They are divided into mechanical and tissue valves. The tissue is divided into homografts and heterografts. There are many different types of prosthetic valves, including the Saint Jude valve, Hancock valve, Starr-Edwards valve, and Carpentier-Edwards valve. (05 Mar 2000) |
